Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Tin Foil hat!!

Snow for Christmas! We had that, once! But it was slushy because we’re so far south. For Utah, anyway. Fifty miles farther north, and we’d be in ski country!

I need to get started on Second Breakfast! (What a thing to look forward to, eh?) But it is what it is, and I’ll enjoy it while I can! Of course, I just use it to cover up the taste of the next dose of pills I have to take....

I got a text about an hour ago from FS. He said he was going to “break away” and come to church with me Sunday!

Evidently, Roy is going to have most of his kids with him, and since the majority are male, they won’t miss one more!

Nice surprise this morning! *happy dance*

I’m glad you’ll get to go to church with your son.

Thanks! It’s a fun thing to do with him. We mostly did it on Sundays when PW was ill or out of town, and it was always fun on patriotic days when we both wore red, white and blue!

I don’t know how long he’ll stay, as church is only for an hour, instead of the usual two, so I’ll see what I can whomp up for him to eat. If I can get to Lin’s I can get something to make sandwiches with, as I already have the chicken. Or I could make some bread....I think I have all the ingredients for the bread machine to do its thing.

Yep, it was pretty cool, knowing he’d “break away” from the festivities in St George to come and be with his Favorite Mom!

Good morning. My resolution that we’re not getting another cat takes a hit every morning when I look through cat pictures. On the other hand, it gets stronger ever time we go to my daughter’s house and see her cat, who are expensive and kind of overwhelming in a small space.

What a cute kitty!

Good morning. I hope you slept well. I was having some disturbing dreams just before I woke up. On the one hand, I wanted to go baack to sleep, but on the other hand, I couldn’t get out of bed and away from the dreams soon enough.

Just have to finish up on the housework this morning. Sweep the kitchen floor and vacuum the bedroom and living room and sort the clothes for Monday’s washday. If I get that done soon enough, I have the rest of the day to be a slug.

The cartridge in the shower was replaced yesterday, but there is another part that needs to be replaced, so it will be next week before I can get a decent shower. And no, Chuck could never have done the job because of the trembling in his hands.

Tyler ruined my one good towel by not turning the water off outside, so he had a flood in the tub, part of which got all over the floor. And I haven’t mopped the floor every week like most people do, so it was pretty dirty. So was my towel when he got done!

But that was yesterday, and today is a new day!

It’s true, today is a new day. I slept okay. It’s sunny here, and cold but not freezing. Could be a lot worse.

Happy Winter Solstice!

I’ve had trouble with the print heads on the printer needing to be cleaned every so often. I went to print out Charlie’s letter and got a faint printing, and even though I cleaned the heads yesterday, I had to do it again today. It must be the off-brand ink I use. But I can’t afford the spendy stuff, and it’s not like I was doing genealogies again.

It’s not freezing here, but my hands don’t know it!

I’ll probably wear my winter beanie when I go to mail Charlie’s letter, anyway.

If I actually had a cat, no.

Tyson-who-is-not-allowed-on-the-furniture only looks puzzled.
