Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

“I can’t remember how many fire drills we had in my school years. Not the same obviously but the logistics would be.”

We had nuclear war drills.

Busses would pick up the kids and take them to a site out of town.

Good morning. Happy Humph Day! Merry Christmas Eve!

I went to Walmart to get a fiber powder the nutritionist suggested for The Princess yesterday evening. It’s a good thing I brought my armor. I tend to avoid Walmart on December 2x.

Young ArGee found an old laptop for me to recycle. I couldn’t get it to boot, so I took out the hard drive and removed the data platter. I thought, “Maybe I’ll just bend it so it’s unusable and then throw it out.” Turns out those are plastic with some kind of metallic film. It shattered all over everywhere! Next time I’ll just scratch it up.

Today’s Wordle was not a Christmas gift to me.

Merry Christmas Eve Morning!

Got to hurry out to get oil on the 5 trays that we need to give out this evening... Same weather, morning clouds and (hopefully) afternoon sun...

The Walmarts must be mobbed until closing time...

A so-so Wordle to start the day...

Since this doesn't compute for me, what kinds of trays that you plan to give out need oil? Or am I not connecting dots to previous posts of yours. We have a winter storm warning from Friday morning into Saturday morning. Young ArGee is looking to leave Saturday. Hopefully everything is over and the roads are drivable before she leaves. On the plus side, her trip to see us used to be about 10 hours. It's down to 6 now. So she can leave a little later and still ahve a good arrival time.

It is food safe oil for wooden bowls, trays, and cutting boards...

That 4 hours cut from her travel time is not insignificant... hopefully the roads will be cleared by the time she heads out...

Merry Christmas Eve.
Happy Yule day number 4 and is dedicated to Odin and wisdom.

Not sure what the matching Hanukkah day would be or if they even have different meanings for each lighting of the menorah. Anyway... Tore my house apart last night looking for my ribbons and labels. Found my box of gift bags and another of wrapping paper. Was living in fear of trying to hit up a shopping center to pick up more bows and tags... Nope. I'd just put the box in another room and some other stuff got piled on top of it. Found it this morning. Working from home, wrapping the rest of the presents, then off to spend the evening with my parents and siblings. Wordle 1,649 4/6 ⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜ ⬜🟨⬜⬜⬜ ⬜🟨🟩🟨🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Got it on the oil. Makes sense.

She leaves very early from her home to go anywhere because she lives in a reasonably sized municipality. But from here it’s a lot of nothing for a lot of her travel. So she’ll be more thinking about traffic when she arrives. Maybe on Saturday it won’t be much of an issue.

Hanukkah has different themes for the 8 days, but the lat day of Hanukkah was Sunday.

Glad you missed the mob.

Good morning. Merry Christmas!!

We got a nice present. The Princess hasn't had a seizure in over a year now. Her last one was Christmas Eve 2024. She also seems to be recovering from her ailment. So it's shaping up to be a very good ay for us.

I hope everyone's day is Merry and Bright and may Jesus bless the day and 2026 for you.
