Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

That is a very nice card/display! I logged in to try to order some but they are not available online... said that my Walmart is out of stock but I clicked for the notification if/when it comes back in stock...

I wanted to send a couple and keep one for home...

Relaxing, since the pipe bomber has been identified.

Good morning. Happy Monday!

The care is safe in the Wildlands. The train ride back here was uneventful. We now have 5 days to get ready for the moving truck to come.

Saturday my starter word was the Wordle word. I’m posting that result for posterity.

Wordle 1,603 1/6

I’ve had 2 days with my new starter word. I got a 4 out of 6 on both days.

Wordle 1,605 4/6

Good Monday Morning!

Congrats on having the patience to stick with it for a one spot! 👍🏻 (Any idea on how long it was between 1s?)

We got down to 34° F overnight, our coldest of the season... but the warmup starts already, tonight’s low is forecast for a few degrees higher...

Took a while for this one...

Wordle 1,605 3/6*

I feel like it was at least 6 months between 1s in this case. But other times it has happened quicker. It just depends on what word I pick and when the Slimes people select that word as the Wordle of the day.

Yeah, I couldn’t remember when you got the last one... whether it was around a year ago...

I can’t remember when I got my last one either... I guess I could search through my results capture files searching for “1/6”

Mine too! So we had the same one. Now I’m trying to come up with a new starter word.

Good morning, all. Happy Twosday!

Thank you to all who have served. Veteran’s day is a holiday in NYC so I’ll be doing moving prep stuff all day. I may be able to drop in again, but maybe not.

We got snow yesterday! A small amount actually stuck to the ground. There are flurries this morning. It really couldn’t have waited 5 more days???

Anyway, I need to call the movers because Mrs. ArGee is now stressed that the truck they bring won’t be big enough. She’s a worrier, she is.

Rockpapershotgun showed that today’s Wordle word had already won, so don’t be fooled. I tried it anyway as a throw-away word since I couldn’t think of anything else.

Wordle 1,606 3/6
