Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good morning. Happy Monday!

I survived the trip out to see young ArGee. She goes to a church that meets on Saturday. I got to go with her and meet a lot of her friends. She’s not making many friends her own age, but she has quite a few my age that were fun to talk with, especially about Biblical things.

All the stuff arrived safely. We got young ArGee’s classroom and apartment set up. I was trying to give her one of our Google Nest cameras to point out the window at her car, but that doesn’t work. Even with the lights out in the apartment all it saw was its own reflection. She’ll have to either rent one of their garages or move to have safer parking.

The Home Depot cargo van was very big. I’ll be driving it to The Wildlands on Saturday with stuff Mrs. ArGee doesn’t want to trust to the movers. I’m not sure these kinds of trips are what Home Depot had in mind when they decided to offer unlimited mileage, but since U-Haul only does unlimited mileage on one-way trips, we’ll use Home Depot.

I haven’t solved today’s Wordle yet. I’ll post it when I do. I’m a bit stuck at the moment.

Good Monday Morning!

Well our weekend rain forecast ended up being a bust... we got around .20” within about 10 minutes on Saturday evening... rest of it all stayed well to the North... next possibility is Friday night into Saturday... 🤞🏻

Wordle was difficult to navigate this morning... said that I was logged out of my account and kept throwing errors when I tried to log in... I was able to do the puzzle, but not sure if it registered me as being logged in at the time... 🤷🏽‍♂️

I don’t abandon a starter word until it wins.

It would be good for me to swap my starter brain, though.

Good morning. Happy Twosday!

I know just how the kitteh feels.

Mrs. ArGee has created a model of the inside of the van I’m going to be driving on our floor. She’s fitting things for me to take inside that model. It will make it easy to load the van but it makes for an interesting living situation until this weekend.

We had a rainy day yesterday leading to cooler temps today. The leaves are starting to fall so the trees think this is for real.

I had a so-so time with Wordle today.

Good Morning!

Looks like the temps are cooling down... I suspect that yesterday was our last day touching 90 until the spring... by the weekend, highs will be starting with a 7...

NYT Wordle had me marked ‘absent’ yesterday so today begins with a streak of one...

It could have been. AWS had problems with looking up servers, which could have impacted looking up the login server for Wordle.

Sorry you lost your streak. I decided against adding one more user to the Slimes, even a free one, so if I miss a day I might not even remember.
