Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good Morning!

I am hoping that the kink in my back loosens up quickly today so that I can get some stuff done... 🤞🏻

After I put in the sacrificial word for row 2, the row 3 guess didn’t take all that long...

There’s nothing worse than growing old.

Except maybe the alternative.

Haha! That reminds me of our little Papillon, sometimes when we think that he needs to go out his tunnel to do his business, we say “tunnel!” and he obediently runs out but immediately turns around and is back inside within 2 seconds.... 🤣

I was just thinking that we have a lot of leaves down for this time of year, it is because it has been so dry for so long... I assume that you mean leaf removal from the rain gutters...

No... the yard. Ash have already dropped... maples are dropping now. Once the oak’s let go... I’ll have nearly a foot of leaves in some parts of my yard.

Raking leaves is such an annoying chore.

You just get it done and they start falling again.

Maybe I just take too long to get to it.

Ahh, the leaves on the ground... I usually like to keep ahead of them by using the mower to chop them up for mulch... but until it rains some, I refuse to ride that around in giant clouds of dust and sand for hours...

At this point, maybe midweek next week we will get some... 🤞🏻

Good morning. Happy Humph Day!

Kitteh iz safe!

The cloud cover continues here. Once the skies clear I expect the temps to drop. But they’ve been holding steady between the low 50s and upper 60s.

One of Mrs. ArGee’s sisters wants to know when the money from the house sale is coming. I guess nobody has told them how long it takes to close an estate. We still have to file the late M-I-L’s taxes for 2025. (Unnnh!)

I had two ideas for today’s Wordle guess 3. I decided to try the more common word first. WRONG!

Good Midweek Morning!

This little pup seems to be going in the opposite direction... we expected that as sunup got later and later each morning, he would sleep in a bit longer each day... for the past few weeks he is actually waking up earlier and earlier each day... not sure what to expect with the “Fall back” time change coming up...

I stumbled along on this one...

A dog’s sense of time is ... interesting.

I remember the ad for “Pets” where the door closed, then we saw the dog saying to itself “I miss her ... SOOOOO much.” Then the door opened and the woman said, “Forgot my keys!” Then the door closed and we were back to “I miss her ... SOOOO much.” That cracked me up.

I don’t think that I saw that one….

Funny thing is that he is so regular at the other end… every night at almost exactly 10pm, he lets us know that he wants to go to bed…

Cold and grey here... 47 degrees and damp. Yuck.

Although... the last few days during my off hours, I've been working on a leather armor kit from Black Raven Armory in the UK. The Asmund torso armor. Comes with almost everything you need to put it together... minus dye and some simple leather working tools.

I went with a basic black dye... But, it turns out because I bought the larger sized armor, a few of the rivets they include do not work as intended. I have some on order. I may actually pick up some “chicago rivets” that actually screw together and may hold better at some of the stress points.

As for the Wordle... I could find the right consonant...
