No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
See what else life tosses at me.
I hope it's not a dwarf.
Depends on the dwarf I guess.
I didn't realize that you had a Honda motorcycle as well...
When I was 15 I could ride a bike on my learner’s permit as long as it was under 5 brake horsepower (essentially, 100cc or less). My parents got me one so they wouldn’t have to drive me around so much. But they had my uncle (the ER doctor) talk to me before they’d let me ride. He was definitely anti-motorcycle.
He did tell me a story about someone on a 1100 cc bike (Suzuki?) who hit the gas to pass a slow moving car. He said the guy bounced a couple of times when he hit the ground, and as he went up in the air he could see the bike racing away from him on its back tire.
I wonder if anyone has done a physics paper on why paper is strongest at the perforation.
I have my 2010 Triumph T-Bird that is my Abagail. In the almost 4 years I’ve had her, I’ve put a bit over 30k miles on it.
I bought a 1984 honda Shadow VT700C as well... before I realized this was the second crappiest Shadow to buy... Oh well... For $275 I wasn’t complaining. Been slowly rebuilding it. Carbs, fuel pump, coils, LED turn signals and lights, seat vinyl and cushioning, tires, brakes, and painting the tank... I have some highway bars to put on it while I have the front wheel off... I have some saddle bags for it too, but I need to fab up some brackets for them.
Was building it up for my kids to ride... but who knows if that’ll happen now.
There are a couple of bike related Tube of You channels that I watch regularly... one is basically “stupid people from around the World and motorcycles”...

I may not be as “up armored” as some of the ATGAT (all the gear, all the time) supremacists out there, but I do take precautions.
Life is full of risks. If I’m going to die this way, at least it’ll be something fun and possibly spectacular...
“What do you want us to die of? Old age???!!!”

Good movie...
With Robert Duvall and Michael Caine, it would be hard to mess up.
Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!
We’re fasting for Yom Kippur. I went to the bagel shop this morning to get some bagels to eat this evening when we break the fast.
I’m trying to call the Salvation Army stores around here to see if they’ll accept heavy duty plastic hangars as a donation. We’re getting rid of all our plastic so we have a bunch. So far I’ve only gotten through to one store and they said “no”. I hate to throw them away. There’s nothing wrong with any of them.
Today’s Wordle was very ordinary. I did discover that COVID is not in their word list.

I remember having some sort of small bike (maybe 70cc) as a youngster... never rode it on paved roads, just the dirt roads and trails... Always need to be careful on any moving vehicle... especially when motorized...
Yeah, I just thought you had the Triumph... I didn’t know that you had another 2 wheeled project underway... Certainly sounds like a very thorough rebuild! You can’t go wrong for $275!
Good Morning!
Finally got that section fenced in so that I can start to move the piles of crushed limestone to where I will need them... now the challenge is to visually estimate how much I will need for under the footings, versus available for other uses... I guess that I will just have to guess!
This was a toughie for me, took quite a while to arrive...

Front tire is off the bike... but now I'm thinking about front fork seals and that as along as I have it torn down this far... More parts on order... *sigh*
I really though this Wordle was going to kick my arse... I had one consonant, but then ran out of all but one vowel and weird mid-word placement for the one letter I did have. Must have gone through dozens of “guesses” before hitting the right one... I hope the rest of my work day does not follow suit...

Right, if you have gone that far, might as well take care of everything while you are at it...
It was a tricky one... took a lot of ergs...
A lot of truth in that!
