Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

LOL! Chip never has to worry about his food bowl, or other cats eating it all before he can get to it.

Good morning. I didn’t think I was very tired last night but I was. I slept until 0100, then since I was off the BP med that made my feet swell, I had to make a pit stop, then some comforting dreams and the alarm rang. Nutz.

I need to go shower in about 10 minutes, but I sure don’t want to. I’d rather just go back to bed for a few hours. I’m afraid if I try to push myself into going to church today, I’ll end up making myself sick. I can’t really afford to do that.

(I hate these decisions!)

It’s going to be a hideous week if I don’t, so I’m going to do it. See you in a bit.

Well, I rested, and if I got any sleep, it was about 30 minutes’ worth, and that’s OK. It seems to have been enough for now, and if I do quiet things during the day, I should be OK into tomorrow.

My body is still losing fluid quite quickly, and that’s one of the reasons I didn’t sleep solidly. I’ll get dressed in a bit, but my day is still off to a good start.

I watched a thing on the Ritz Hotel in London, yesterday, and it is the most beautiful hotel. I understand why people insist on staying there. The service is amazing. It was on BBC Select, streaming.

If you can find it, even at the library, it’s definitely worth watching! Especially when they put up the Christmas tree! Stuning!

I’ll see if I can find the full name of it and post it in a while.

I tuned in to the Zoom channel for church but got no sound. That was not fun. There is one more speaker, but he’s just a talking head with laryngitis. *sigh*

Probably the live cat is a democrat. “Your bowl is empty. Make some noise.” All the while the live cat is thinking I’m going to steal another meal.

That’s why computer-assisted learning is so good—if you don’t get it right the first time, they teach you why the answer was incorrect and let you keep trying ‘til ya get it right. Some of us were born seventy years too soon. OTOH, I seriously doubt that I could make it in today’s world. Lotsa challenges.

I love it when a plan comes together!

Good morning.

The laundry is done, and it was just barely warmer in the clubhouse than it was outside, (32°) and I’m going to try and sleep four hours, as I have an appointment at the pain clinic at 0850 this morning.

I had just settled in to sleep last night and the doorbell rang. It was a mailman, dropping off a box of puzzle mags to keep me occupied on these cold quiet laundry mornings. I buy them in bulk whenever I have a few dollars extra, and they are all the ones that didn’t sell in certain stores, but at a fraction of the price. This way, I don’t have to buy them at gouging prices when I run out.

Anyway, I literally stumbled to the door to get it open. Took me a while to go back to sleep, but I managed. Now, I’m going to try the nap thing.

See you in a bit!

Good morning, and I hope the nap is a success. I’m up for the day, or at least part of it!

Good morning. Happy Monday!

We had some cold weather over the weekend. It was a little warmer this morning but we got about 1.5 inches of snow overnight. I was up at 4 shoveling M-I-L’s driveway so no caregiver would fall and think it would be easier to sue her for their living than to take care of her.

Mrs. ArGee had to go see the oral surgeon this morning to check on her implant. She got an early appointment so it took all the whack out of my morning. I haven’t even finished the Wordle yet (although after a 6/6 on Saturday and a 5/6 on Sunday I might not guess this one). Hopefully I won’t be out of whack tomorrow, too.

M-I-L appears to be sleeping better. Maybe we’ve found the right medications. I don’t think she’s just getting used to being alone yet. Her anxiety is still through the roof during the day.
