No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Lost part of an oak tree that landed on neighbors fence. My little electric saw isn’t gonna cut it and my old Homelite they don’t sell a chain that matches to drive sprocket.
So... I picked up a new Echo 590 with a 20” bar. Comes with an Oregon chain, so oughta make solid work of even an oak.

My neighbor asked for some of it. Probably burn the rest in either the bonfire pit or stack it for the fireplace in the house this Winter. I have plenty already... but... who knows.

Well, when you think about it, experimentation sometimes leads to good discoveries.
I can’t imagine being the first person to look at a chicken egg and thinking, “I wonder what that tastes like.”
I have one of those 590 Timber Wolves... great saw but I advise to never use that little button that backs off the compression... all it does is lead to flooding... I can’t tell you the amount of time wasted because of that little button.... Grrrr
He will be much more clever about skunks after this morning... most of ours learn pretty quickly... one or two encounters is all that it usually takes.... except for Peter... sigh...
I don’t think the kitteh is in my chain of command. But if it had been, I’d be toast.

He is an Australian Cattle Dog or “Blue Heeler,” he has a long track record of “experimentation!”
I never get to work with fun stuff like that.
I think someone who set up a “drive an earth mover” theme park would make a mint for those of us whose real life never includes “real man” stuff.
I can just imagine the performance review:
* Meals on time - unacceptable
* Litter box cleaning - unacceptable
* Opening the outside door on request - unacceptable
* Making sure all my favorite perches are always available when I try to sit on them - unacceptable
Good advise considering that is literally part of the start up proceedure.
I’ve started motorcycles with high-compression engines that you cannot kick start if you don’t hit the decomp on it.
Will keep an eye on that.
Pro tip: it’s not a good idea to drool on a keyboard. Yuck.

Oh yeah... printed right in the little manual... also, if you run it for a while and don’t empty the gas tank to the point that you need to refill, if the saw sits for a period of time (especially in the heat), it can sometimes be hard to get restarted... I find that opening the gas cap slightly to let the pressure build up escape, does the trick...
Oh, and one other little thing... if you forget to flip the little toggle switch back up to “run” position and you pull the cord more than once, it can very often flood... it has now become second nature that I always check that little toggle, even though I now automatically flip it back up after it turns off, before I put the saw down...
Compression, vapor lock, and flooding issues.

Ya but it really is a great saw if you can just avoid the flooding issues!
