Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Congratulations! We are resisting a new cat, although different once keep showing up at the door. I figure they all have homes in the neighborhood and are just mooching.

Yellow kitties are so sweet. Although this guy looks like he might have some attitude going on.

He’s invited himself into a college dorm and is not planning to leave.

It’s good for young people to have a cat.

Good Monday Morning!

Happy Memorial Day... I hope that we all get a chance to reflect on the legacy of sacrifice from those that gave all on this sacred day...

I got my fencing done with the exception of one post at the end of the new run, adjoining older fencing that needs to eventually be replaced... needs to be re-anchored during a break from the rains... looks to be some classic soaking rains, nothing too severe, which is always good news!

Okay on the Wordle front, hoped to do better after the lucky 2 spot yesterday...

Good morning. Happy Tuesday!

We had a pretty good Memorial Day weekend, although it could have been a little less rainy.

Mrs. ArGee is learning the joys of waiting for people to respond who aren’t in as much of a hurry as she is. Of course, they’re not making anything “late”, it’s just that she’s waiting and they’re not.

The Princess has a vet appointment today. If her liver numbers are still good we may be able to consider the problem solved, at least for now.

A good 2nd guess on the Wordle front today set me up for an easy trey.

Happy Tuesday!

Rain on tap... Client this afternoon...

Started working on my project car again the other day... Had my Son help me pull it out of the weeds and spent some time cleaning bird poop and mouse nests out of it...

Good times.

Good Morning!

Our rains held off as promised and we didn’t get under a Severe Warning until late yesterday evening, and thankfully the severe stuff didn’t materialize in our area...

Nice work on the 3 spots, none for me today...

Back when we lived in Houston the neighbors had a car sitting unusable for a long time. I was down the street when he and his son finally decided to open the hood and see what needed to be done. I watched them race across the street and look at the car from the neighboring driveway.

When I finally got back to my home I saw the largest hornet’s nest I had ever seen hanging from the hood. YOWZA!!!!

Glad you only had weeds and bird droppings.

There was a hornets next under the hatch for the gas cap. That was... 20 years ago when it was parked at my former In-laws farm.

Just spiders and old mouse nests now. Well... minus some of that now. A few hours with a shop vac does wonders.
