Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

I might need to join a riding group or something... Doing tires isn’t hard with the right equipment.

If I was helping out friends, who could then help me out with maybe gas money or food... it could justify buying something like the Rabaconda tire changer that could have turned a 3 hour job into a half hour job...

Yeah, if you were part of a group it could probably help spread that cost around a bit…. Looks like a nice system…

If I ever retire I will have to get good at something like tinkering so I can fill my time with that.

Good luck!

It’s starting to look like it could rain here. Frank, of course, is letting another day go by without mowing the lawn, which is looking very “native prairie” already.

Getting the bead broken was relatively easy... it was the dismounting the tire from the rim that sucked. The super-simple balancer was cheap and worked a treat. Bike tires aren’t as sensitive as car tires as far as balance is concerned.

She rode smooth as silk with the new front rubber on her.

Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me… I need to get some mowing done… been busy with tree removal and am letting the mowing slip…

I actually like the Native Prairie look. When we first moved into our home in the wildlands most of it was natural grass. It looked pretty cool to see the wind waving through the grass. I thought it would be great if we could leave it that way and just put enough lawn around each home to protect everyone from ticks and fleas.

Naturally that didn’t happen. And, no, I’m not offering this to Frank as an excuse to avoid getting Epic Fail moving for the season.

I don't know if I find this funny or sad.

I don’t mind the native prairie look, but I don’t like wading through it to get to the garden due to chiggers and stuff. And the HOA gets nasty if the front gets deep.

Good morning. Happy Tuesday!

It’s still chilly here. It was 45 fs when I walked The Princess.

I’m trying to help some people learn to use Microsoft Project, but Microsoft has stopped creating Project for Mac. A friend has gotten a Windows license for me so I’m working on getting Windows 11 working in UTM - a virtual box. It’s quite an exercise in patience. But I hope to be there soon.

I did a little better at Wordle today.

Brings back memories... I recall a long time ago trying to run a version of Windows on a Mac in what I think was called a Virtual Machine (VM)... I think it was because we needed to run some desktop application that was not yet available for the Mac... I recall it working, but being very resource intensive....

Good Morning!

The winds will soon be shifting to be from the North soon and we will have a much drier couple of days... a bit of relief from the swamp...

Tough time on the Wordle front... by mistake, I learned two words on the journey...

The continued rain up here extended my commute by an extra half hour. No accidents, no road pirates, just people being extremely cautious in a mild drizzle...

Inclemency is supposed to continue possible until Thursday... I guess we'll see.

Hopefully there won’t be anything too severe... some parts of the country have been being hammered... for weeks in some places...

I was going to look into a tool called Parallels that allows you to run 2 OSes at the same time on a Mac, but I found out not only would I have to pay for Parallels but I’d still have to pay for Windows. So I went this route.

It does make one wonder if all the talk about God blessing a Godly nation and otherwise for non-Godly nations wasn’t just talk.

I have heard of that product but never tried it... at this point in my life, if it doesn’t run on a Mac, I won’t bother with it... Mrs. zz is still an unrepentant Windows user, so she can be saddled with those applications...
