Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

300+ miles later... I am home again...

Tired... Sorry. I fought a raccoon off on the tee shot, but he grabbed my ball untli I caught up with him on the green. Easy putt using a slightly stunned trash panda as a putter...

Did this come from the movie, “The End of the Spear”?

Good morning. Happy Friday!

Young ArGee is winging her way back home. (I think she’s actually sitting in her connecting airport about now.) I got back from dropping her off 30 minutes before I normally get up.

There’s a slight nip in the air, but it’s definitely spring. The lawn people even came yesterday. Hopefully EFLS hasn’t caused too much trouble for the T-C lawn this season.

Mrs. ArGee had a meeting with the estate lawyer yesterday. She thought she was just going to be dropping off some documents. Anyway, she warned her siblings that they would be receiving a copy of the will and a Waiver of Citation soon. That needed explaining to one sibling which lead to some legal research during the evening.

Starting at one under I had some ground to make up so I took a chance on a drive of about 300 yards to get to the far edge of the first cut. Imagine my surprise when the ball actually made it across the cart track and into the near edge of the second cut. From there I hoped to put it firmly on the green close to the flag. I had to pick my jaw up off the ground when the ball actually rolled into the cup on the second drive. The eagle sends me into the 4th hole at 1 under.

Good luck to young ArGee. Travel is such a hassle.

Epic Fail lost the battery for the weed whacker, but his dad miraculously found it.

Excellent golfing today.

I’ve had issues with Kanukistani Cobra Chickens before... Bill Murray once had an issue with a Geomys pinetis and a few ponds of Serious Putty.

Me? Trash panda. A few years back, we had been trying to keep the local bird populatoin fed and had a number of feeders up on our deck. We were watching TV and heard a commotion, not a ruckus... definitely a commotion, from outside. I flipped the flood lights on and there were no less than 10-12 raccoons raiding my bird feeders. It was the classic “everyone freeze and maybe they won’t see us” pose...

Happy Friday Ya’all...

Got a massive wack off the tee in a drive that would have done my golf instructors ghost a world of good. Feeling froggy from such a display of skill and strength, my second shot with a #3 wood should not have landed as well as it did. Clear shot to the green and a well chipped wedge dropped the ball right up against the pin to bounce it back into the hole...

Good Good Friday Morning!

It doesn’t look like we will be have a nice sunny Easter weekend, but we can deal with the clouds and some needed rain... just as long as the strong storms don’t decide to visit... 🤞🏻

The 3rd hole on this beautiful course looked like a straightforward approach was in order... as long as I could keep the ball out of the traps and on the fairway I had a good chance at Par... And that is how it played out... Nice drive from the tee, fairway wood for the second shot and I was on... chances of sinking the putt from the front fringe to the pin at the far side didn’t seem likely so I took a measured approach and my third shot got me about 2/3 of the way there... fairly easy putt to drop in for Par...

I’ve often wondered why Christmas survived the Christian origins of our founders as such a big national holiday but Easter did not.

I finally decided it’s because the Church is always celebrating the passion and resurrection in Communion/Eucharist/Mass. Our regular songs/hymns are celebrations of what it means that Jesus died for us and that He rose again. But we only celebrate His birth on the one special occasion.

So, even though there is no verse in the New Testament that says, “If Jesus was not born of a virgin your faith is in vain and you are still in your sins”, it can seem like we care more about the gift giving at Christmas than the real gift given to us at Easter.

But it is true that because He died, atonement was made for us and we were reconciled to God. And because He rose, Sin and Death were defeated forever. Knowing this, and living this, is what it means to be Christian. If the Nativity story had been lost in antiquity this would still be true.

I hope everyone enjoys their celebration this weekend however you do. This year even the Eastern and Western Churches are celebrating together. And I hope everyone is able to be at peace that your redemption is accomplished, and Death and Sin are conquered.

We just have ‘regular’ gophers here... all 3 of the outside dogs try to dig them out but our Aussie is the only one fast enough to actually catch them...

Having 3 fairly large dogs roaming the fenced in yard keeps the trash pandas at bay...

This is quite a fine start to this round for you on your home state course! ⛳️

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and well wishes for Easter.

I finally decided it’s because the Church is always celebrating the passion and resurrection in Communion/Eucharist/Mass. Our regular songs/hymns are celebrations of what it means that Jesus died for us and that He rose again. But we only celebrate His birth on the one special occasion.

I think that there is a lot of sound truth to that, and may well be a strong factor... however, I have always thought that it was a more simple, less theologically based reason... a story about a little baby being born on a winter's night in a manger seems to have a much broader appeal to human beings as a whole (at least in Western Civilization), rather than a story about a grown man being tortured and killed in a rather grisly manner... regardless of his accompanying resurrection a few days later...

Easter is still pretty big around here, everything closed up today through the weekend... except retail will be open on Saturday... 🤷🏽‍♂️

I am, at current, dog-less... This is a sad state of affairs that I intend to remedy at my next serious opportunity. I am waiting for a certain re-allocation of my personal finances though...
