Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Happy Birthday to Elen.

Is Frank still enormous? Maybe he intimidates people.

My kids are getting older.

I’m still the same.

Frank isn’t immense yet, but he’s still growing. He had some justification, but I told him to practice restraint, if only because he may be Tom-sized in a few years and crush other humans like bugs.

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!

I tried to help a couple of people learn something about project planning yesterday evening. It was kind of fun, but it’s going to take a few more sessions.

We had a winter weather advisory overnight, but I’m not sure why. It must have passed us by. It was almost 40 when I walked The Princess this morning heading for a guessed high of 70. And it’s raining now.

I’m hoping I’m not off by a hole. I’m thinking this is #12. Anyway, a really nice pair of drives put me in that nice little sand trap right in front of the green. I chipped out of that to get a nice lie next to the hole, but not the good-luck roll that I had yesterday. An easy putt still let me come in for a birdie putting me at 3 under, if my memory serves.

Good Morning!

So we waited all day and no rains came... but I was able to get quite a bit of mowing done... expecting some rain today...

At hole 12 they are challenging us to see how far we can drive the ball! Thankfully I got off a great tee shot and followed up with a fairway wood to get in hailing distance of the green... A nice shot with my 7 iron put me on in three... I lined up the medium range putt well and it fell in for the Birdie 4...

We had some rain yesterday evening, and it’s cloudy today. Frank and Kathleen want to go to Walmart, like every other day.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Frank’s team was first yesterday, even though he’s a dumbass.

Mrs. ArGee keeps telling me “You’re as old as you feel.” I keep telling her what bad news that is.

What do they want to do on the days they don’t want to go to Walmart?

I can imagine going to Walmart on a rainy day as a pastime. There’s all sorts of stuff to look at and lots of people for people-watchers. It’s better than a park sometimes.

Yesterday, we milled around at Walmart for 20 minutes waiting for a prescription for Vlad’s infected toe. I found a bookcase for Tom. He has more books than shelves.

I think people use old shopping malls as places to just hang out as well. That is, when they don’t actually need to visit one of the few places that are still in the mall.

The nearest mall to here actually has two workout facilities right next to each other. That was some clever sales work if you ask me.
