No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Good Friday Morning!
Another chilly overnight... now I think that we will stay above 50° F for the overnights... quite possibly until the Fall... 🤷🏽♂️
Hoping to improve by at least a stroke, I teed up for the 556 Yard Par 5 Hole 3... Wanting a truly monster drive off the tee I ended up way under the ball and sent a high pop up that landed just at the far left edge of the water and rolled a total of 5 feet... thankfully I had a nice lie and was able to hit a whale of a shot with my 3 wood that got me just in front of those two nasty traps guarding the green...
Luck was with me today as I chipped up just past the pin and got an incredible roll back in to the cup for an Eagle... after poor performances on the first 2 holes and a horrendous tee shot on 3, I am very fortunate to head to hole 4 at Par...

Standing, not sitting...
Always good to get a clean report!
I suspect that the youth will return...
Like a gift wrapped box with a 'To: Pandora' tag...
Fascinating.
“Do Not Open Before Christmas”
Years back when she lived in Henderson, near Las Vegas, she was going to have eye surgery and commented she wanted someone to help her during recovery. I happened to be at loose ends, so I offered to mosey over and stay nearby for a few days.
She's as nice and interesting and fun in person as on FR. A gracious host, and just plain good to be around. We chatted for days about this and that. Family photos. Funny stories, things like that.
Did you know the paramedics left her for dead after a major traffic accident? Several victims, and she was in a pool of blood with half her face ripped off. They figured she was a goner and took an ambulance load of not mortally wounded first. She showed them! Still alive when they got back for a second load.
Showed everybody. The surgeons patched her up. and she recovered quickly. Tough gal. The only evidence if having her face half torn off was a small notch, a nick in her left nostril, that she wore with pride as a survivor.
Amazing woman, we were privileged to have her as part of our circle.
FYI, there are a lot of pure bloods on the Undead Threads.
BTW did you happen to notice we're on "General/Chat", not as a news news or breaking news section?
I probably need to get a checkup. It’s been almost 5 years. And I have no idea whether anything is wrong with me or if I’m normal.
I had mine removed, got distance lenses installed in both eyes.
Should you chose that, and need someone experienced in caring for someone while they recovering after eye surgery let me know.
I'll even tell you about my 5000 year project...
My M-I-L had sheep many years ago…. we never even thought to get a camera (long before mobile phones!) and snap photos…
That could be pretty useful with a bar bully.
"Move or I'll rip your face off!!!"
"Been there, done that. What else you got?"
I should amend that. I know I’m not normal. I wonder if I’m medically within normal limits.

And I need to quit talking to myself.
Fascinating.
I’m here. I need a checkup for summer camp. It won’t determine whether I’m within normal parameters, only whether I’m likely to die during camp week, creating a nuisance.
I would think that would be great training for the young campers.
But then, I usually think those camps should have sessions on preparing for the Zombie apocalypse so my opinion might not be mainstream.
Survival training is usually an option, but zombies are unlikely.
I can’t see her in a bar, but I can see here snapping back with that reply!
Pretty sure I ended up in the sand trap or water hazzard after a great swing off the tee...
