No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Visibility in the ice fog has dropped to less than 50 yards.
DANGER UXB!!
Yes here were are! We always leave a trail of cookie crumbs for the late-comers, so I’m glad you found us.
How have you been?
Does GB celebrate a Thanksgiving day? I know Canada does, but not sure when that is. October, I think. Is that right, Fanfan?
Ratboy is always there as a backup, so I'm told by the Christmasy Elfin Folk.
Evening! I hope you have a good night. It’s been busy here today.
That sounds worrisome ... but I guess it turned out okay?
Now that I think about it, it sounds like the opening of a Darksheare short fiction.
He didn’t mutate into anything from the meds or detonate with the full force of a dying star.
But otherwise, admittedly, yes that sounds like something I would intro with.
Good to hear that it’s going well!
I was “busy” too, and got home the second time rather late. I was tired and stressed and just put my jammies on and called it a day.
I then zoned out watching a documentary on Algeria. It’s interesting, but the only reason I’d was to go there is to see the rock formations.
Maybe hit the shops along the way to explore the French parts, but otherwise, I have some beautiful deserts here.
I came out of church the first time and looked slightly to my right and up and saw this beautiful mesa lit up by the sun. I thought about taking a photo when I came back, but then I forgot all about it. Maybe I’ll go one day this week when there are no cars in the parking lot to spoil the view.
I can’t do much about the houses behind the brick wall, but the mesa speaks for itself.
Now, off to wash clothes!
Good Monday Morning!
That cat looks hopefully expectant to me...
Hoping that everyone survived the long weekend without gaining too many pounds...
F-I-L is now on hospice care, staying at the same home, just different protocols in place, being run by a hospice provider... M-I-L is now very concerned about making appointments as we have no idea when “that” call may come...
Been a tough string of Wordles, two 5s, then a 4 on Saturday, another 5, and today’s desperate attempt...

Explaining who was watching.
Good morning. Happy Monday!
I’m glad everyone made it through Thanksgiving. We had some peace in the Wildlands but came back to about an inch of snow on the ground. Considering it was 19 fs this morning and a foreguessed high of only 35, I’m not sure it will melt off anytime soon. I was not ready for this. Brrr.
M-I-L is still not sleeping well most nights. The Dr. said the pill we’re giving her should be knocking her out. I guess she’s tough. About every 3rd night Maybe her body decides it needs sleep. Anyway, B-I-L is back home so we’re back to the usual stress. Soon it will have the addition of dealing with caregiver holidy time off and one caregiver expecting 2 grandchildren close to each other. Fun times.
Wordles were mostly difficult over the Thanksgiving weekend with one 6/6 in the mix. Back to more normal today.

Good morning. I hope you slept well.
I think I slept an additional three hours, but it probably wasn’t enough. I was hoping for four, but my mind wouldn’t shut off for some reason.
I need to get dressed in a minute, then have Second Breakfast so I can really start the day.
It’s not too bad out with a temp of 38° and though the temp seems stuck in the 50s during the days, this day will be sunny. Yesterday was mostly overcast. I’ll take whatever sunshine I can get.
I’m going to call the vet tomorrow and see if they can make an appointment for the next week. Then I’ll try to figure out how to get hime in his little carrier. It may take two people and Linda can’t do it. I’ll work it out, somehow. I think he’s really not doing well.
He finally ate a little bit, between the time I got back from doing the wash and the time I got up, so there is that. But I’ve had him almost nine months, and he needs to be seen.
That looks almost ... painful.
I’m sorry about your F-i-L. With him not eating it was almost a given that this would happen. All we can do is love them and leave the rest up to the Lord.
Absolutely, ‘Face... we are just praying to the Lord... Thy will be done...
Indeed. Sometimes, if we pray too much for something, we will only end up keeping them here when they need to be released from their pain and suffering.
At least, that’s my experience.
I’m assuming your F-I-L is more ready to meet Jesus than mine was, or my M-I-L is.
Once that’s taken care of, the rest is just enjoying the moments.
Me, He can take me any time.
Good late morning! I’ve been rushing about, but I think I’m in for the rest of the day. Famous last words.
