Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

I’m sure it’s rough for her but I’m glad she’s still with us.

That’s always a risk with early season plans, but you get a discount!

Unlike the time we spent a week in Vero Beach, FL and the sand was covered with washed-up Portugese Man-o-war. No discount. No fun in the sand. Just bummer.

It’s sunny and 69 in Hurricane, UT. I hope Face has a window in the hospital!

Supposed to be nice here tomorrow.

It’s 54fs out side now, with a guessed high of 56. It looks very sunny out the window here.

Good morning. Happy Twosday!

A lot of snow melted off yesterday. We should see a lot more go today. The lawns will be back to grass, only the piles left by the plows will remain. And we have guesses of warmer temps for the 2 weeks my weather beeber shows.

Mrs. ArGee is interviewing 2 potential caregivers today. These will cover for the one who just announced she’s leaving and the one Mrs. ArGee wants to let go. Hopefully the interviews will go well.

She talked with the palliative care doctor yesterday about how much longer she might live and he started talking about “choices” and her thinking about how long she wanted to live. She started thinking this was a “death with dignity” schpiel so she shut him down. Young ArGee has been hearing about that a lot, too. I guess the idea is really taking hold. We really do have a death culture in this country.

On a more normal note, I got a decent Wordle score today.

Good morning. Excellent Wordle effort. I wish Mrs. ArGee success with her interviews.

It’s supposed to be sunny and warm today, although everything will be muddy after yesterday’s rain.

Good Morning!

That crew looks mildly annoyed! 🤣

This back to waking up in the dark isn’t much fun but the daylight into the evening has been enjoying...

I must be in a stretch where my starter word is very fruitful...

I was glad that we didn’t get any of those schpiels during F-I-L’s last days... I think M-I-L may have blown up big time if they approached her with one...

Hopefully you find some replacements soon!

I don’t like the extra dark in the morning.

Nice Wordle!

I’m with you on the morning sun. We just need more daylight, period. But I guess God had other plans.

Awww...

Looks like our Fiona (RIP), Duke (RIP), and Darth-Ann.

No match for the white one, though.

Thanks for the Wordle kudos.. I guess it is my reward for suffering through the long dismal streak…

It is amazing how all of the day and night times seem to work out all across the globe year after year… almost as if it were some type of intelligent design…. 😮

Any updates from ‘Face?
