Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

What does it even mean? “Pad kid?” Is “curd-pulled cod” a traditional Scandinavian meal?

Good morning. Happy Monday!

I always make it through Sunday after a time change thinking, “This isn’t so bad.” Then Monday comes and ... ugh!

We had decent weather over the weekend. We have some unseasonably warm weather on tap for today.

Mrs. ArGee is struggling with letting a caregiver go. She doesn’t like to do that, but this one is a particular pain. Caregivers are supposed to make life easier, not harder.

Wordle was OK today. Once again, the dreaded “I know too many letters and there are lots of words that fit” problem.

Good Monday Morning!

We had a cloudy, chilly weekend with last night’s overnight low dipping into the upper 30s, but now it looks like a warmer and sunnier foreguess is on tap...

Wordle is so streaky for me... for a long stretch I couldn’t buy a 3, now I have a streak of 7 out of 8 3s running... 🙃

Good morning. It’s Monday here, too. Cold, will probably rain. I’m taking the van to the shop later this morning. The back door won’t open.

Hopefully it is just jammed somehow and will be an easy fix!

Yes, I hope so. If they’re successful, we’ll see about having them fix a door on the Avalon later in the week. Vlad is on spring break, so it’s a good time for it.

I suppose that’s better than a back door that won’t close.

When we lived in Texas we had a van. I got rear ended by a pickup and the back door was damaged.

The insurance company let us rent a Geo Metro, which could have fit in the back of the van. My son recommended we buy one and keep it in the van as a spare.

Happy Monday... Frosty commute. 32 degrees and I decided to ride my motorcycle to work... 60 degrees on tap for this afternoon, so risking the frostbite I deemed worth it...

Nice ride in.

It still feels like winter. We’re going to the beach in May.

I would have risked it, too. Although having been raised in FL we’re probably talking temps of 50-90 when I took the risk.

And the only bike I’ve ever ridden was a 100cc Honda because I could ride that on my learner’s permit. And after all the anxiety my mom suffered, I had to sell it as soon as I could drive a car and my younger brother couldn’t talk her into one.

Monkey Face texted me, said she had surgery following another trip to the hospital but is still with us.

I was wondering where she’d gone off to again...

Saying an extra set of prayers for her.
