Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good morning. Happy Monday.

One of our caregivers got stomach poisoning on Friday night so I had to go over and take a shift with M-I-L. Fortunately someone else could cover part of the shift so I never had to actually change her or put her on the commode. Not only am I untrained, but that would have been weird.

It got really cold again last night, but the guess has us up to 50 fs by tomorrow, so I guess the snow will continue to melt. Maybe spring will come after all.

Decent Wordle outing after such a tough weekend.

Good Monday Morning!

Well the winds started yesterday as a prelude to the mass of ultra dry air that will be pushed down here tomorrow... fortunately, the collision with the moist air streaming up out of the Gulf will occur mostly to our east and we will miss the brunt of the nastiness...

I think that I had a decent Wordle on Thursday, then tough sledding until this morning...

Or something.

Happy Day of the Moon... Starting off the work week at 28 degrees... Just 7 more degrees and I would have had my first commute of the year on my bike... My comfort cut-off is 35 degrees and I am not comfortable knowing there are spots where ice/frost could still exist.

50 this afternoon though... Some of my afternoon “training” time might have to be in the form of a podcast while cruising the countryside...

Certainly nothing wrong with that!

Good morning. I had a couple of delays this morning, so I have no expectations about what the rest of the day will bring, except mishaps.

That is, if the rest of it is anything like the start.

FS and PW called last night which was a surprise, and even more surprising, she was the one who reiterated their love for me. But not without some minor would-be argument, except for the fact that I just said, “OK.”

It was good to hear his voice and nice to have a “conversation” with both of them without coming away feeling like I’ve been beaten up.

It was 0745 when I finally opened my eyes for the last time and tried to tell myself I had things to do. Which is true!

Both kids had questions for me which I figured they would, but I tried to explain in my best whisper that I wasn’t making any decisions about anything until I had more information. Yep. Dat’s me!

I can’t imagine any of my kids or their spouses doing what the “techs” did in the hospital, so I’m witchoo! Not a fun thought for sure.

We’ve take a swing in the cold direction, too, and I’m not happy about it. The wind has been blowing almost constantly since Saturday afternoon, and I don’t know where it came from, but it’s ugly, for sure.

Good job on the Wordle!

I think our trash day is on Monday, but since I don’t live next to the dumpster any more it could be Sunday at midnight!

Do you live in a helmet state? Do they make HUDs for the helmets?

It’s Monday here unless they’re running late. They do our “side” of the building all at once and we each have our own pair of bins. So it’s a noisy production and I definitely know when they’re here. The Princess loves to watch them.

Helmets are not mandatory... but I have mine wired for audio. I do not think I would ever deliberately force others to listen to my music while riding around...
