Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good morning. I slept fine, got up at 4:30, picked James and his Hair up from the airport at 5:45, and then got on with the day of Envirothon stuff. Kathleen doesn’t have art class this afternoon, so there’s time for everyone to eat supper before Kathleen goes to Sunday School at 6:00.

James was visiting Elen in Oregon for a few days. He said it rained, but at least her cats liked him, and she said he could tell me that he was a good houseguest.

Does James have to buy an extra seat for his Hair?

I’m stronger now than I was at this same juncture the first time I came home and so have been given more PTs to work with.

I’m waiting for my nights to square away, so I can rest, finally.

It’s always good to eat supper as a family. I still miss that!

I’m glad Elen’s cats liked James. Though I can’t imagine any cat not liking your kids.

Caregivers just called. They think M-I-L just had a mini-stroke. Mrs. ArGee is going to go over and check after a quick bite.

We aren’t supposed to do anything except keep her comfortable at this point.

You pray, I'll worry, I'm good at that.

Thank you, all.

As Mrs. ArGee started out the door she got another call that M-I-L spoke after she’d been put in bed. She said, “I’m all right.” But then she went to sleep and slept all night. So we’ll see if she’s responsive today.

Good morning. Happy Humph Day!

The “warm” weather continues. The icicles are almost entirely melted off our roof. Considering there were some that could have killed a large animal just a few days ago, it’s pretty impressive. We need a lot more of this snow to melt so The Princess won’t have a problem finding a good place to do her “business”, but maybe we’ll actually see some ground today.

I got a better score in Wordle today than the last few days.

Good Midweek Morning!

Glad to hear that things have stabilized for the time being with M-I-L... here’s to warming temps and melting snow...

Another tough day on the Wordle front for me... I am clearly in a slump!

See, worry works.

One can’t pray and worry at the same time, that’s like crossing the beams, one needs full faith to effectively pray.

Worry still needs to happen, so it must be delegated to someone else...

Good morning part deux, everyone. They Say it may be 72 this afternoon, which will be nice for Kathleen’s riding lesson. The last two were called off because of downpour and/or snow.

The yutes are nagging me to go to Walmart.

I know there are some who speak of prayer as if it were some sort of magic incantation. If you just do it right, you get what you prayed for, etc.

That ain’t me.

But I’m also not one to reject “thoughts” when offered by those who don’t pray. Your worry (thoughts) is much appreciated.

The yutes are nagging me to go to Walmart.

My nasty sense of humor would be to go to Wal-Mart and then, when the yutes asked me were I was, I'd say, "Well, you were asking me to go to Wal-Mart so I did!"

Regal looking kitty!

Good morning. Something “thumped” during the night, and all I knew until this morning was that it wasn’t in the bedroom.

When I did finally roust myself, I found that it was the portable safety bar in the bathroom.

Two ladies from the church came over after they got off work and did an amazing cleanup in my kitchen! They did the dishes that had been sitting for shortly before I went to the hospital in January and then managed to clean the countertops and take out three bags of trash that Linda somehow missed.

I’d been trying to get my pills from the pharmacy since Monday, and Cindy, the one who works in the hospital kitchens, made a call and found out that I was supposed to have presented them to the pharmacy myself. Who knew?

So she, bless her heart, took them down (or I should say “up”) dropped them off, then went back a few minutes later and picked up the ones that were available and the rest will be delivered this morning.

What a relief!

So, Life has finally righted itself, once again!

Good morning again. I’m glad you’re feeling more upright. I forgot to get bananas at Walmart. Maybe I’ll ask Vlad to do it, if I ever see him.
