Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Recently folks were talking about buying stuff at Walmart.

Last thing I bought from Walmart was stock in the company.

Did I make a mistake?

Woman driver!

Good morning. I hope you slept better than I did last night, but if I recall, the first time I went in for the GI bleed that it took about a week to get so my nights weren’t too bad to deal with.

I’ll get there.

We’ve got 46°right now and it looks like a high is foreguessed at 77°, so maybe our long winter is over, though we only had a slight dusting of snow. From the time I went in to the time I came out of the hospital, most of the snow had melted off Pine Valley Mountain. That was sad to see, coming home...

Trying to find the right things to eat is becoming a quest. If my prescriptions ever get here, orange juice will be part of that diet because of the medication I have to take. It’s gross, is the only word for it, but I have to have it twice a day.

The meds should have been delivered yesterday, but I was told they hadn’t received the order as yet. My voice what it is, I couldn’t call and fight my own battle. As it happened, the guy from PT came by and he called the pharmacy with the same result, but he went a step further for me and called the number that handles those things at the hospital and with luck, the meds will be here today. If they aren’t he said to let him know and he would find out what the deal is.

It’s good to be the queen!

What aisle was that in?

I have a hard enough time just trying to find the WD-40.

It’s not good to be a little long in the tooth.

I think I relayed the story back when M-I-L was in rehab and we had received a bill from a nearby hospital for the testing. Then we were told insurance should have covered that 100%. We called the hospital and they verified we should get a refund. But it took like 6 months and finally calling a state rep to get the check. I think they were trying to wait her out because she was elderly.

Elder abuse is a thing, and it’s not just done by friends and family.

Kinda terrified for tomorrows though... I don’t need this kind of pressure right now.

There’s a funding deadline for my LLC coming up... Trying to get my proposal finished while still doing my usual load of work at... er... work. Day job kinda stuff.

Although, I did run my business plan through Elon’s Grok AI... 3 phase plan, 20 year timeline... The word “trillionaire” was used.

I’m not greedy by nature, but that caught my attention...

Well, seeing that word will certainly get your attention!

Best of luck to you getting it funded and off of the ground!

Speaking of strange phrases, why do people say, “Thank you, kindly”? Would you thank someone unkindly? What would that even mean?

Best of luck to you.

Hopefully Grok AI indicated how many businesses you had tried your hand at to get a successful one going. I have no idea what the number is.

It’s a special service of my bank.

I can now lose money in my checking account and in my savings account.

Grok AI was not given that information... They... um... don’t need to know either.
