Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good morning. Happy Friday!

It’s getting warmer, although it’s not warm enough to start melting anything yet. M-I-L’s street still looks like a winter wonderland. I think the city surrendered.

I got a lucky 3rd guess on the Wordle. It was starting to have “long” written all over it.

Good Friday Morning!

Well we had some nice sun yesterday, but the cold air mass was still in place so we didn’t get above freezing... no more sun until Sunday afternoon according to the foreguessers, but the cold air is retreating so we may get a degree or two above freezing by this afternoon...

Another disappointing day with the new starter... could have been worse though...

I would just stick with the old starter word, if it did the job of eliminating other words, that’s the whole point of the starter word.

Yeah, I see what you mean... I guess that I am a bit greedy in that I want that utility, but also a chance for another ace somewhere down the line... lol

One trick I use now is I use a utility to pick the possible words after my starter word, and then use ChatGPT to eliminate the words that have already been used.

Before I had to painstakingly go through each word and check it against the list of already used words. Now I pretty much get consistent 3s.

Happy Friday... Hail Frigga!

14o F right now... Feels like a heat wave. I need at least upper 20's for the heater in my garage to allow for comfort while working out there. It's just one of those "propane topper" rigs.

No real plans for the weekend. I'm on the contact list for the local Harley dealership and they've got some kind of shindig going on tomorrow... Might pop up there and see if that blue Road King has come down in price any. Someone special ordered it, changed their mind, and now they can't get rid of it. It's been there two years collecting dust. :-)

Monkey Face says she’ll be in the hospital at least another day.

Actually, I’ve decided to use an anagram of a prior starter that I liked using... best of both worlds... lol

It is a heat wave... of sorts... I believe that it will be warming up a bit more each day for most of us, into next week.... not sure what lies beyond...

I’ve got a couple of those Mr Heater Big Buddys out in the workshop, they do a pretty good job, but aren’t miracle workers! 🤣

If it is an indoor shindig at the dealer, might be a good way to spend some Saturday time.... enjoy...
