Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Our humidity is “high” in the early mornings, running an average of 60%, but by this time of the day, it begins to drop. In the winter months, it stays around 40%, but in the summer we can get down below 10%. So opening the door isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

One of the reasons I needed to come back. The climate is what I’m used to. I was born in the High Desert and that’s where I’m happiest!

I like it — as long as I don’t have to drive in it or walk through it.

I love to see it on the mountains but see above.

Wish you were here! ;o]

They probably don’t have “recovery” in their maps, anyway.

If the image weren't shown to be washroom signs I wouldn't have ever guessed that's what they were. I would have guessed a hospital emergency room with a separate entrance for stomach problems and back problems.

This came today!

It looks simple enough, and even though I haven’t read all of the instructions and all of the “welcome” message, I think it will do just fine! Now all I have to do is make sure I don’t break it before I can use it!

Thanks again for the info!!

Good morning. Happy Friday!

It never really warmed up yesterday so the snow stuck around. It amounted to about 3”. That meant I had some snow to shovel after work at M-I-L’s. It was 33fs this morning so maybe some of this will melt off toay.

On the plus side, I was going to go get a new monitor but I ran out of time. When I got back and turned on my computer my existing monitor was working just fine. OK, it was a little flaky at first, blinking on and off. But that stopped and nows I have a good monitor again. I’m sure it will fail again soon, but at least I don’t have to deal with using only half of it today.

And I had a so-so Wordle outing.

Good morning.

I wasn’t feeling well last night, and I think it was the Ziti a friend made for me, but I didn’t recognize it as food poisoning until the crisis was past, so I didn’t take any charcoal.

At any rate, I slept 12 hours because of it, and could have slept more, but I have a follow-up appointment with my family doctor this morning, in St George.

Chip is making wonderful progress and yesterday, he barely moved when I crossed the room twice. YES!

Good Friday Morning!

I have to get a fan hooked up to exhaust the greenhouse when the full sun is out... as it is foreguessed to be this afternoon... Last evening I noticed that a lot of the tips of the plants are simply burning away...

Thought that I could get a 3 spot out of this one... but no...
