Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good morning. Happy Twosday!

We have warmer weather. I walked The Princess in 32 fs this morning. It was actually a little slippery last night so I went to M-I-L’s to put salt on her driveway. It seemed less slippery this morning, even though it was still wet and colder. Go figure.

Good Tuesday Morning!

Cloudy start to the day, but they are promising afternoon sun... will have to keep an eye on the greenhouse when the sun comes out at these temps... yesterday it got up to 107° in there before I got the roof flaps open... even with both of them all the way up and the door propped open, it took quite a bit of time to get it back down into the 90s... will have to invest in some sort of exhaust fan very soon...

Argee, this floppy reader — I read all there was on the Amazon page on it, and my floppies are actually on the much newer side of the 90’s, when I was in business college and within the next few years before the advent of CD-ROMs.

Also, when I scan them, I CAN send the data to my slave, right? Also, I have a lot that have never been used. Do I have to scan them to see which ones they are?

Good morning.

It’s warmer here than it has been, with a low this morning of 45°, and a high of 74! That’s a 20 degree rise in the last few days for day and night!

Actually, I’ve been up since before 0600, but I am a little slower now than I was before the 25th of January, so its taken me a bit to get here and make myself known.

I’ll try Wordle again in another couple of days. I did some crosswords yesterday and was surprised that I knew the answers! YES!

When I hear people talk about greenhouses and gardening, I wish I had my own place so I have a little circular herb/vegetable garden. The plans called for enough fencing wire to the height of 5’, so the circle was 3’ across for a compost pile. It had a 12-14” opening in the front to access the compost.

The plants were done around that to the limit of three feet, with the ones needing the most nutrients next to the compost. I lost the plans long ago and forgot which magazine they were in but I’m going to see if I can find it somewhere online.

It was a great idea, and the bees loved what I planted!

Gloriosky! We now have actual Amazon delivery vans and drivers!!

No more having to wait an extra day for the USPS to deliver! What a bonus! It’s been a very long time coming.

If you use that floppy reader, the floppy drive should show up in your File Explorer whenever you insert a floppy. So, floppy in = there’s an A drive there and you can click on it and see the files. If it’s not formatted, you’ll get some kind of message, probably with an option to format it. If it’s formatted but blank you’ll see an empty list.

When you’re looking at that list you can do whatever you would do with those files if you were seeing them on your C drive or on your slave. That includes copying files from one place to another. You would just drag from the floppy and drop in the slave.

Hopefully this helps.

That sounds like a neat project... I’ll have to keep something like that in mind...

Can you grow some tomatoes in 5 gallon buckets where you are now?

Almost all of the plants in the greenhouse are growing in those buckets....

You are fortunate... we don’t have any out here... UPS and FedEx bring our stuff.... most Prime delivery is about 4-5 days.... getting it quickly is a 3 day delivery.....

FYI: I ordered the debice, and it will be here Thursday, so I’ll be all set to begin transferring files.

Query: Is there a way on this thing to erase the data on the floppy so I can toss it? I’d rather use the space for something rather than floppys that are no longer needed.

We appreciate your efforts.

I’ve been trying to get Congress to bloviate toward the west. That should stop anything but a Category 6 Hurricane. But no luck.
