No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Haha! Typical cat!!
Good morning! Did you have a good night?
And are you frozen, yet? According to the weather beeber, you’re sitting at 11° and we’re at 15°. But then, you’ve got a little more wind than we do, plus, this is the time of day for you when it’s the coldest.
I slept fairly well last night, though I had some strange dreams again. Thank goodness I can’t recall them.
Yesterday, I watched a thing on “The Flying Scotsman.” What a beautiful train! When it would layover to take on supplies or do routine maintenance, they always scheduled a day trip for the passengers.
One of them was the place where the original Green Berets of the Royal British Marines did their training during WWII. Our Green Berets are an offshoot of them. Very interesting. Scotland is very beautiful.
Good morning. Happy Humph Day!
It was -6 fs when I walked The Princess this morning. Brrrr. Young ArGee was without power all night. She’s a little concerned this morning. Schools are closed due to the cold but she’s there charging things right now. I looked at news reports for the area and they said as of midnight there were 459 people without power. Sounds like it was only her apartment complex. Sheesh!
M-I-L seems to be recovering from her latest medical event. She’s able to do more for herself and even carry on conversations again. So the hospital bed is on hold for the moment.
And I had a good Wordle outing this morning.

Minus six, eh? But then, you are a bit closer to Canada and that barb-wire fence than we are. I don’t envy either of you!
Sorry to hear about Young ArGee. That’s got to be frustrating for her and everyone else affected.
Good news about your M-i-L, though. I hope she continues to improve.
Awesome job on the Wordle.
Good morning, not bad, and yes, we’re frozen. There is less than an inch of snow, but it looks pretty, and we don’t need to go anywhere. Supposed to be below freezing all day, but the snow will melt from the sunniest places.
I’ll be glad when this cold snap ends. The utility company is going to make a small fortune off of the residents of Hurricane!
And right now, I want to go take a nap. Go figure.
Good Morning!
Cold (for us) overnight (20° F), but not as cold as Sunday’s overnight... which was our coldest night of the season thus far... also the night of the 4 hour power outage... our outage was 27 people (households)... I suspect someone crashed into a power pole on the highway and knocked down the feeder line for the 27 of us...
I had a good Wordle start as well...

Outstanding, sounds like a heat wave!
I remember after one storm that cost power a bunch of trees were hacked most un-asthetically to ensure blowing branches didn't cause wires to cross.
So it could have been Mother Nature's fault.
I love the Muppets so much I’ve always had a Kermit doll!
Thanks for posting that. Maichael Caine is one of my favorite actors, as well.
Could have been, but after the winter of 2021, they made a huge effort to clear all of the trees from any where near the power lines around here…. From the outage map I know exactly where the problem occurred, the next time I drive by there, I will check the status of the pole. ….
When we first moved up here we had a long-duration power outage. We were out of town for most of it. After the power came back on I went along one back road to see about 1/2 mile of brand new power poles.
That is a good Wordle!
I’ll be glad when this jet stream moves back up to the Arctic Circle where it belongs!
Get out the Coppertone! You’re having a heat wave!
Good Wordle, too!
I think Michael Caine is my favorite Scrooge and the Muppet’s Christmas Carol is my favorite adaptation.
Young ArGee was talking over the holiday about how she’d forgotten that Scrooge only had one late partner in the book because it’s always the Statler Brothers in her mind (mine, too).
I loved the Muppet Shows, and yes, the Muppet Christmas Carol is my favorite, as well.
Statler and Hilton always stole the show when it came to the Muppet commenters! But who can out-do the Swedish Chef?
I just realized Bluetooths are in the Bible.
