Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell
Not The Bee ^ | November 26, 2024 | Staff

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

It’s almost 1500 and it’s not much warmer than it was when I got up.

The wind in tricksy in this cul-de-sac, and will blow in your face on the way to the dumpster, then blow in your face on the way back.

Tomorrow, the wind is supposed to die down, so I’ll take the trash out then. I’ve gotten cowardly in my old age!

The wind chill is 26° and the wind is straight out of the north at 26 mph. I got everything done but taking the trash out as there was no way, even in my winter coat, that I was going to try and brave the wind and the cold.

I’m SO glad I got that storm door on! Now I have to replace the weatherstrip from when I first moved in. I’’ve got enough for both doors, and will make sure there is some across the bottom and top of this back door, as I don’t want any drafts coming in.

Now all I can think about of course, is going in and crawling into a nice warm bed for the rest of the day. I’ll wait a few before I do that, though. Even though my legs are telling me I’m tired! I don’t know why they do that when I’m tired. Must have something to do with the A-Fib.

Good (Late) Day!

We had our coldest overnight 17.3° F and lost power to boot... I was up for several hours while I got the well house and greenhouse switched over to generator power... Since there was no sun today, we never got close to out forecast high of 40° F... I think that we just got above freezing for a couple of hours....

Here’s to a better overnight tonight!

Very tough Wordle for me, took me a long time to make the 3rd row guess... it paid off...

Tyson-who-is-not-allowed-on-the-furniture had a caseous cyst in the middle of his back, a lump about the size of a large macadamia nut.

We lanced it yesterday. He now has a dimple where he had a pimple, and is a bit more active.

Good dog!

It’s not so much what “they” will treat as what we will ask to be treated. Yes, if she breaks a bone or has a cut that needs stitches, we’ll take care of those things. But if we suspect a TIA we won’t rush her to the hospital for tests.

Ahh, yes, now I understand... once under Hospice care we had a very similar arrangement for F-I-L...

Good morning. Happy Twosday!

I’m sure NYC didn’t like the fact that our MLK Day holiday coincided with the inauguration of President Trump, but it did. So I got off work for “Morning in America” day (my own name for it).

I took The Princess to see her specialist vet yesterday. They wanted to see how this new pill was helping her. All the results were very positive so we’re going to cut the steroid in half. That’s good news.

The polar vortex is here. It was 0 fs when I walked The Princess this morning. It’s supposed to last for the next 3 days.

We had Hospice visit on Saturday. The woman was pretty bossy - almost like we weren’t doing enough to help M-I-L along to her next life or something. We’re trying to avoid the hospital bed as long as we can since M-I-L watched her husband come home and die in one within a couple of hours. But it’s probably coming soon. She can’t help herself get out of bed into her wheelchair or onto the toilet (or commode) any more, so we have to consider her safety and the safety of her caregivers. Brother-in-law is thinking we have weeks left at this point.

After a 6/6 Wordle on Sunday I got a 2/6 yesterday and a good outing today.

LOL!

Good morning. Did you have a good night?

Last night was fairly good, considering how long I slept the night before, and the wind has died down, so maybe I won’t wear myself out taking the trash to the dumpster today.

We’ve got 12° right now, with a high guessed at 47. But it will be sunny, and right now, the wind is only at 6 mph out of the north.

The clock in the bedroom said it was 66° in there, so I knew it was cold outside. No comment on how I feel about the cold but I might have to kick up the heater another notch!

I haven’t looked at a weather map, but it would seem there is a cold snap all across the country.

FD has -12° in CO, so I feel lucky that we’re still above 0°. FS is at 17°, so I guess we should count ourselves lucky to be at 10°!

I just refreshed the weather page, and the number 10 popped up! It will be colder by 0800 MST! Oh well...I’ll go heat up the bathroom so I can change out of my jammies.

Wow. A lot of info crammed into the last three days for you.

I wasn’t paying much attention to the inauguration event. I can probably find a rerun of it somewhere online.

That’s good news about The Princess Dog! I’m glad she can be helped. Is she still on milk thistle?

I’m sorry to hear about your M-i-L’s difficulty getting out of bad and off the commode. I don’t think you ever told us your F-i-L’s age when he passed, or your M-i-l’s age now. In their 90’s?

I should probably get back to doing Wordle. It might help my brems.

The Princess is taking Denamarin, which is a Milk Thistle product.

F-I-L died a few months after his 92nd birthday. M-I-L is a few months into her 91st year.

Tough going on your Wordle, DC! Must be a real poser.

I like your temperatures even less than I like my own!

I certainly hope Trump can undo some of the damage the Leftists did. America deserves better that what we had.

I’m glad the medication is helping The Princess!

Being in one’s 90’s means a life well lived, I’m sure. It’s just sad to see them go through suck infirmities as they’ve each suffered.

You probably don’t need reminding but you’re all still in my prayers.

Good Morning in America! (I like that theme...)

Glad to hear good news for the Princess... hopefully M-I-L won’t suffer too greatly, or for too long... 🙏🏼

We had a brief dusting of snow overnight that has pretty much evaporated by this morning... one more cold overnight for us then things begin to moderate...

Very tough Wordle for me, certain letters mess with my mind...

Oh yes, it is a pretty big invasion of frigid air... the Jet Stream is way down along the GoM... I saw one report that this cold air mass is so massive that it is going to bleed through the mountains to the west and encroach into California causing more extremely high winds that they don’t need...
