No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Glad you talked to your brother, and good news about the voice. Kathleen had a zoom call on my computer to study with some other Envirothon kids. I went to Walmart. They had no real tea worth buying. I’ll have to go to Harris Teeter.
Sometimes, real tea can’t be found at Walmart no matter how badly we want it to be there at reduced prices. Which is why we shop there to begin with, I think!
Thanks! I’m getting there. At least I can make myself understood in a phone call!
Glorious California weather!
Are you getting any of the smoke, at all?
In this case M-I-L is 91 years old. She’s in Hospice for age.
Interesting Wordle pattern. So, once you know everything that’s wrong, you know what’s right?
But they will still treat “fixable” conditions, yes?
If she twists an ankle or sprains a wrist…. they will treat that at emergency care or doctor’s office, right?
Rome wasn’t built in a day…. (not sure who said that…)
I’ve got plenty of time and no one to talk to so healing should be faster than normal!
Maybe I’ll be able to sing, soon! :o])
Coming up soon post #1234...
True. How are you today?
Can’t you hear them singing, now?
Good morning. I hope you had a good night.
I dreamed I heard the doorbell a while ago and was ready to bound out of bed, but I checked myself! *sheesh* What was I thinking?
It’s 26° out right now and a high of 45F expected for the day. Why I even bother to post about it is beyond me, as its all looking the same.
do you have any fun plans for the day?
Who knows, maybe you will be able to sing in a range previously unavailable to you!
Good Morning!
This evening our plunge begins... supposed to get to around 50° this afternoon, then down to the mid 20s... overnight lows in that area (except for Tuesday that they hint will be below 20°) for the week... maybe even some light snow Monday night into Tuesday... we will see...
I was content to sing tenor, as it’s a range that is in demand in Ward choirs, but not too many men want to sing it. I graduated from alto when I was about 12, and have been singing tenor ever since. I like it! The notes are easy to follow, and my range has always been limited. Even John Denver had a range better than mine.
That must be the storm that dumped on my FD’s and RB’s area last night. They all went out looking for supplies when I had contact with them.
They didn’t get as much as my FS did last week, but still, snow is snow and I’m really wishing we had some! It’s been such a barren winter so far. Barren and boring. No snow, no rain, no ice storm.... Just the same temps every night and every day since mid-October. *sigh*
Awake sort of.
And you?
This is Satiddy, Nully. No one is here, except you and me, it seems. Been like this for a really long time.
It seems other folks have real lives to attend to! ;o]
I’ve been shoveling my desk..
