No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Good morning. Not bad. Sciatica, I suppose, is bother me a bit. It doesn’t hurt all the time, as in previous episodes, but makes it hard for me to turn from my back to my side.
Sciatica is a real bummer. It usually affects me when I’m walking, and then the affected knee buckles and its all I can do to stay upright.
The shower is done so that’s the hardest part of the day, standing up long enough to make sure I’m clean and dry. By the time I get to my face, I’m in too much pain to finish, and have to sit until the worst of it passes. Then come back to it. When church starts at 0900, it’s a hard deal to work out the balance so that my hair is dry as well. *sigh* The things women do to look nice!
I’m going to take a shower and put on a skirt and blouse. Nobody sees me, because the choir is in the back!
It seems the choir was always in the back! Usually, a loft. And both of us girls sang in it. She was soprano and I was alto, though she’s still a soprano and I morphed into a tenor. Which is good, because most choirs need tenors desperately!
This may end up being a busy week for me. And I may need to see about getting a new battery for the Raisin. Not looking forward to any of it!
The Diocese made some noises about a loft when we building the new church, but our building committee said, “Only if you pay for it, and the elevator, too!”
There is something special about a choir loft, and I think the Parish was right in asking the Diocese to pay for it. AND the elevator!
Our choir is always at the front of the chapel, behind the podium, and the chapel is usually constructed with cathedral ceilings. I’m still partial to choir lofts!
I wasn’t able to access Zoom today, and no one answered my text, so I missed out of everything. That was disappointing.
The diocese decided we didn’t have to have it, if they were paying.
Yeah. I get it. If it’s your money, they want it. If it’s their money, they can do without it.
I got a text about 2030 last night saying the Zoom contract had expired and it will be two weeks before they renew it, so it wasn’t operator error, as is usual. It was contractual obligations. It was still disappointing. I mean, how can they overlook something so vital to the older members?
Off to go wash clothes. I forgot to get laundry money this last week, so I’ll have to make sure I have it this week!
Sounds like the audio-visual team fell down on the job. Our parish uses YouTube.
Good morning. Happy Monday.
Kitteh says someone needs to clean under the sofa.
We had a mostly quiet weekend. The visit from the Hospice case worker on Friday must have freaked M-I-L out because she didn’t settle down to sleep until about 4am. Mrs. ArGee is going to find out how few and far between she can make the appointments.
I have to schedule a recall for one of our cars. Maybe I can get a slot on Monday since that’s a holiday.
No stellar Wordle scores this weekend. Nothing special about today’s either.

It is amazing stuff... from what I understand it has become a standard wound care treatment all over the place...
I’ve never used it but I’ve seen videos of people holding up some kind of clear plastic film that you use a hair dryer to attach in place....
Good Monday Morning!
I hope that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable weekend... we finally had F-I-L’s memorial service yesterday afternoon... it was well attended and the ceremony conducted by the reverend that is a cousin in Michigan, remotely via Teams, was very good... although the volume could have been a bit louder considering the level of hearing impairment of most people in the room...
It was a relief of sorts for most of us, to finally get a bit of closure on it, in that sense...
Weekend Wordle went from 4 to a surprise 2... and then today’s lucky...

Good morning. It’s only a little cold here, not freezing. I have to go to Walmart again.
Mom popped out of bed at a quarter after six. Gonna be a long day. 15°F and dark.
Even Facebook is more reliable medium for church services. They used that in Cabot, but it seems in Henderson, they also used YouTube.
I’m finally up.
Looks like Kitty went ‘splorin’!
Good morning. It was hard to go back to sleep for some reason, so I’ll just sleep well tonight, then hit the ground running tomorrow.
I’ll get dressed in a bit, then hang the clothes. It’s still cold in here, so they’re fine.
It’s my younger sister’s birthday today. The one who is perpetually mad at me. She could have had her number changed for all I know, but I’ll get on Facebook on the Family thread and wish her a happy!
Nah. I’ll use the kind that tapes to the window frame. It’d more reliable. I just need to find someone to help me put it up, is all!
Good morning, same here, stayed just above freezing overnight….
Ahh, I could never figure exactly how those other ones work….
