Congratulations! I’m a year older than you. My ideal weight is 169 and I hover in the low to mid 190s. I’ve yo-yo’d up and down a few times, but the weight always comes back.

I get a lot of exercise hiking in the mountains around here (310 miles in 224, 42,000 vertical feet climbing, 95,000 calories [per the trackers]) but I must ramp up my eating to match. The only thing that has worked for me is strict calorie counting. Whenever I give that up, the weight creeps back up.

The carnivore diet video is fascinating. Thanks for that link.

I've been told to reduce my oxalate intake. I miss gorging on chocolate. The rest, I'm reducing bit by bit. Should get my pre-surgery urine test results soon.

Other common oxalate-caused symptoms can also include mood conditions, anxiety, sleep problems, weakness, atherosclerosis, prostatitis and burning feet.

Did I mention it's a green laser TURP surgery?...

The mention of Ozempic brings to mind an herbal supplement that has become popular recently, specifically berberine, that has been billed by some as a “natural Ozempic”.

I'm trying berberine, so far it doesn't seem to be doing much of anything. Still, I'd say try it yourself, your results may vary.

I love it when they say something akin to, “We haven’t a clue as to why it seems to do what it seems to do”. Makes me really crave some /sarc

It took over 100 years to figure out how aspirin works. Just sayin'...

Different times = different technologies.

It’s especially troubling when the “We don’t have a clue what it’s doing” relates to brain/mental issues.

60 years ago they discovered using thalidomide as a sedative for pregnant women was a bad idea - today, they use it (under new names) for certain cancers and HIV, etc..

It should scare folks that they don’t know what a lot of drugs do to folks and sometimes it takes quite a while to find out if they cause tragedies...Just sayin’...

Does your berberine have black pepper extract / BioPerine for absorption? Otherwise, you’re not getting much in your system.

No. I’ll find a brand that does. Thanks!

That sounds like a poor ratio. I suppose if nothing works with some metabolic issue maybe a last ditch? I’ve seen bad side effects with 1:100,000 that scared me(observed, not self)

This video reports on the actual amount of the active ingredient in 25 brands that are on the market. According to the test results, the worst of them contains no berberine at all, and the best of them exactly match the quantity stated on the label.

In the top tier are products from Solaray and Swanson, and several others.

BioPerine is available as a stand-alone supplement from Swanson and probably others.

No you didn’t. I had that done about three years ago, and it was very rough for me.
I was not prepared for the recovery. For most people it goes smooth, but for others it’s several days of catheters.

If I had it to do over, I would seriously consider doing the urolift.

I can’t say for certain if I have experienced the effects of too much oxalate. Probably because I don’t gorge in any particular oxalate rich food.

Have you noticed ill effects from too much chocolate?

I’ve noticed if I add powdered Vit C to my smoothie or water, I feel lousy the next day. I never thought it was the Vit C, but it is a very potent oxalate crystal precursor.

Funny, OTOH, adding lemon, natural fit. C, to your water apparently inhibits the effects of oxalates.

You are exactly right.

If you can point to 3 major change in the American diet, it was the introduction of seed oil, genetically altered wheat and addition of sugar to just about everything.

Now we hear that oxalates are in issue also, however oxalate poisoning has been known for years. Kids would get dizzy eating rhubarb tarts.

Our body tolerates just about everything if we limit the amounts of those things that can hurt us, if eaten in abundance.

Many of the foods you list there are very high in selenium also. I just bought three bags of organic Brazil nuts.

I did have urolift. It worked great for a couple years. But, (there's always a but) since I was blessed with an extra lobe way up right at the bladder that couldn't quite get stapled perfectly we knew from the get-go that I might need further surgery years later, it's now years later.

Ugly looking thing, a bulge like a giant tongue in a too small mouth.

The advantage of the green laser is it cauterizes as it goes, limiting bleeding. Catheter out in 3 days.

They'll cut loose samples to check for cancer, should have results for Christmas...

Have you noticed ill effects from too much chocolate?

There's no such thing as too much chocolate.
