Rivalry games are tough and MI looks improved.
IO. Wait: World Famous IO.
IO!
Especially this one. There is a reason it is called The Rivalry. HBO even did a special about it. See THE RIVALRY
While I agree with your premise, I wouldn’t call Gumbs one of UF’s better pass rushers. Banks yes....though he was from Louisville. Sapp yes though he was one UF signed out of high school. Gumbs is a good player and very athletic....IMO still has some development ahead of him given how recent his switch to Defense was.
But yeah, guys who were overlooked in recruiting and become stars at small schools now get found and have huge amounts of NIL money thrown at them by the bigtime programs.
Lemme guess....the fsu fans are pushing for this. UF and miami can afford to participate in the arms race. Its fsu that can't. In time honored tradition (see Taxpayer Stadium) whenever fsu can't afford to keep up they go begging to the legislature for a taxpayer subsidy.
We watched that years ago. It all started with Woody and Bo.
It’s basically now like the NFL, on any given Saturday. Get used to seeing Natties for teams with 2 or even 3 losses.
LOL, a couple of weeks ago, every single Florida-based FBS and FCS team that played that weekend (9 teams) lost their game.
SMU was paying players when paying players wasn’t cool.
Congrats to Oregon State, Pac-2 Champs!
For one day yesterday, Florida, Auburn, Oklahoma and Nebraska fans got a reminder of the glory days.
Is the ACC now a two bid league?
The winner of the South Carolina-Clemson game might get in. South Carolina is on a roll, and a win over Clemson, plus some help could get them in.
That’s why I wish college football would go to a 16-team playoff like other levels of college football and throw out any polls or selection committees, etc., win and advance, if a team wins it all with 2-3 loses, great for them.
4 conferences with 16-20 teams would contain 64 to 80 teams combined, that is plenty to have a 16 team playoff where you win and advance and who gets in the playoffs is decided like the NFL, it’s all based on performance not some beauty pageant.
Think Woody Hayes passed in 1987. I was barely out of high school.
Still remember when I was at a game in The Shoe in 2006 and they announced Glenn Edward "Bo" Schembechler Jr. died. The announcer asked for a moment of silence. The Shoe was completely quiet for a few minutes.
And Buckeye Stadium (The Shoe) being quiet just is not normal. Only other time I saw that was before in 2001 after 9/11.
The problem is you have some teams in the Conference that don’t play a tough schedule, while other teams have to play all of the good teams during the regular season so they don’t get into a position to play in the championship game.
Then you also have a situation where a team would rather not play in a Championship Game and risk losing. Tennessee for example, would be better off not playing in the SEC Championship Game.
Woody Hayes actually taught an American History class at Ohio State, while he was the football coach. And he was a die-hard Conservative, so you know it certainly wasn’t woke.
That was also a time when many of the coaches were WWII Vets, like Bear Bryant.
Decibel readings on the field are equivalent to being near a jet airplane.
So to be there and see that place go silent was kind of amazing.
Hey, it's sports. I love watching my football. But they are also still people. And even our rivals have good people and good mentors. So, I give them respect.
BTW, Ohio State please crush Michigan next week. LOL
Make conference championship games part of the playoffs, the NFL schedules reflect how a team did the previous season so playoff teams are often playing very different schedules in terms of strength of the schedule
I still think it would be better to remove any sort of judging of teams on who gets in, win and advance
Yup. If I recall correctly Woody Hayes was also a Navy veteran.
Not as up to speed about Bo’s background. Could look it up but about everyone can access search thingies.
