Hard PASS. Very hard PASS.
Picking lint off a sweater is better spent time.
Never forget when Alan Jackson was told he couldn’t perform LIVE at a previous award show. He told his drummer to not take any drumsticks on stage. While Alan Jackson was lip syncing , the drummer was behind him, drumming without any drumsticks in his hands!
Reminds me of the Mamas & Papas having to lip sync on Ed Sullivan. One of them ate a banana while “singing”
Country Music - Bad rock with a fiddle
Ok, I hardly ever pay any attention to celebs, including country music ones. But I looked, and Mr Urban looked normal. I have had cowboy hats for most of my life, and to me, wearing a cowboy hat around the house, at a sit down restaurant, or some other building for more than 10 minutes (except a barn), the hat comes off.
I rarely listen to music any more, (exception: at church), so these musicians have made money without any help from me.
It’s just comical to me to see entertainers wearing cowboy hats when performing. Especially the ‘beat up cowboy hat’ look. As though they just came from mending fence in the hot sun.
Look at all the country music stars in the past that rarely if ever wore a cowboy hat. It’s like, “Hey, I’m indoors at the Opry, why keep this hat on? It’s not gonna help me sing any better.”
A notable exception is Dwight Yoakam. He always wears a cowboy hat to hide his bald head. He looks really goofy without it, but he has a great voice, IMHO.
The only award show that is not political is The Peoples Choice Awards, or maybe they are political nowadays.
My wife still watches a couple of them, mainly for the red carpet interviews and the dresses.
I remember when cowboy hats, sequins and fringe were standard accoutrements of country western music...............
I some of it last night because my wife wanted to see Lainey Wilson. She fell asleep and I changed the channel. That was the worst excuse for country music I have yet to see.

Merle Haggard:
Roy Clark and Buck Owens:
Waylon Jennings:
Ernest Tubb et al.:
The "old timers" were as likely as not to wear a "cowboy hat" while performing.
I made it part way thru the article. Decided no interest whatsoever.....seems like these awards shows just provide the opportunity for the clueless participants to have their few minutes of virtue signalling.
....not that I’m disparaging your posting effort.
I’ll only watch if Ricky Gervais hosts.
WAS I BLIND?
OR DID I SEE AN OVER ABUNDANCE OF TURQUOISE JEWELRY EVERYWHERE???
**A notable exception is Dwight Yoakam. He always wears a cowboy hat to hide his bald head. He looks really goofy without it, but he has a great voice, IMHO.**
I figgurd I’d stir up some replies. I’m not bald, but am thin on top. I also don’t have to worry about maintaining a fake image of a cowboy that sings, cuz that ain’t me.
Had to look him up, but it appears that Kenny Chesney is the 90’s and up leader of a fake cowboy that sings. Maybe he rides a horse from time to time. He’s one of many.
Real farm and ranch living has little to do with music. And as a trucker I rarely listen to any music. Music programs people one way or another. I like my mind to absorb whats going on around me, whether at work or just relaxing.
My wife picked out a dress up cowboy hat for me about 14 years ago. My first one. The other were all work cowboy or wide brim hats.
Wearing a cowboy hat indoors is simply a weird feeling for me. Probably started from my mom telling me: “take your hat off, you’re in the house”.

I guess I’m too much of a realist. In all my times of working cattle (riding or not riding a horse), there were no sequins and fringe to be found, and no music except the bellowing of the cattle.
Not Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Paychecks C&W
Somewhere on the ‘Net, there’s a pic of Willie Nelson wearing a sequined up, fringed outfit and a cowboy hat.............
All I got was ads. No pics.
