One theory for the Democrats’ catastrophic loss
American Thinker ^ | 17 Nov, 2024 | Mark C. Ross

Posted on 11/17/2024 5:19:59 AM PST by MtnClimber

Now that the Democrats’ humiliating electoral defeat has gone into the record books, the remaining processes are beginning to unfold. The driving force for this is not Mr. Trump’s popularity or Harris-Walz’s lack thereof. It is the long overdue awakening of the formerly free-living American public to the accumulated tyranny of the modern mega-state.

Various justifications have been offered for this persecution of the general public. Most conspicuous is the grossly hyperbolic threat of catastrophic “climate change.” In California and at least eleven other states, unelected agency functionaries have issued complete bans on new fossil-fueled motor vehicles, to occur within the conceivable future.

Ignorance of the oscillation between past ice ages and warm periods was assumed to enable the political success of this hoax, but the resulting government-imposed misery was too much for free people to accept. To further provoke this discontent, here in Northern California, there are frost warnings around the outlying Bay Area, and snow-caused mountain road closures, while winter is well over a month away

Hayek hit the nail on the head when he named planners as the primary enemy of freedom. I once heard two urban planners discuss the problem of traffic congestion in urban centers (formerly known as downtowns). Their brilliant solution was to drastically reduce the amount of available parking spaces...thus forcing people to use public transportation. Who really are the fascists in our midst?

I am curious to see how DOGE works. There is just so much waste to deal with.

I believe you could balance the budget with the implementation of DOGE.

“unelected agency functionaries”

In other words, the swamp, the bureaucracy. Grows like kudzu and hydras.

Comes with civilization. Practically IS civilization.

However, let’s not give it credit for the Harris debacle. That was engendered by Joe Biden, who picked Harris for a running mate and then changed his mind about being one term. Changed it way too late in the game, and endorsed her moments later. Leave it to Joe to foul things up.
Then, once she was off and running like a loose toddler in traffic, she picked Walz. That’s on her. So is every other choice she made or didn’t, and every statement she made or didn’t. Without extensive cheating at the ballot box, there was no possibility of Americans electing an ex...prostecutor...from CA to the position of commander-in-chief, POTUS. She was already at least two stations over her head, former senator, current veep. And about as charming as Hillary Clinton.
Blame her and blame Biden for putting her out there.

This is a well-tuned intellectual explanation that is worse than wrong -- it is right but is almost beside the point as to why the Democrats lost. Above all, they lost because Trump beat them with an extraordinary campaign on behalf of an extraordinary message and an extraordinary candidate.

Trump was authentic, passionate, and campaigned all out, with new ideas, and in ways that reached beyond the traditional Republican base. As much as the Democrats deserved to lose, no other Republican could have done it.

Not sure how many people remember it, but I think part of Hillary's proposed national health care plan was to limit the number of doctors - fewer doctors billing the system would (in theory) reduce the annual costs...

“the bureaucracy. Grows like kudzu and hydras.”

Good analogy.

The task ahead of us is just like pulling weeds.

It is boring, dirty, messy and strenuous work.

But—it must be done—one weed at a time.

The mega state periodically does things to force us to spend money. They regularly make whatever refrigerant your air conditioner uses illegal and force you to buy yet another more expensive and less usable one. As a landlord they force me to use a company to do any repairs on my property and that costs literally tens of times more money than if I do them myself. There’s a law. I can’t put on my own roof or fix my own plumbing. The list of money grabbing goes on and on. Don’t get me started on “self-financing” government departments. In Tallahassee there’s a federal, state, county and city EPA. The last two are self-financed. They have written voluminous rules. They can start on any street corner and go in any direction and write expensive code violations. Oh, and they’re dressed as cops, carry guns and make arrests. Not for crimes. But for code violations. To force compliance those violations are defined as “criminal.” So, if you want your “criminal” record expunged you’ll pay the fines and pay for the “offenders’ class.”

The Democrats lost because they tried to play the American people for fools. For three years, they tried to hide Joe Biden’s obvious medical decline, telling everyone “he’s as sharp as a razor” and “he has so much energy, his staff can’t keep up with him.” They would have run him as the party’s nominee if it hadn’t been for the disastrous debate with Donald Trump. They then picked Kamala as their nominee without allowing anyone else to challenge her for the nomination. Even though her approval ratings were lower than Biden’s, they tried to repackage her as a cross between Mother Teresa and Albert Einstein. Everyone knew how inept she was a s the Border Czar, so they simply started telling people “she was never the Border Czar.” They really thought the voters were gullible enough to believe their outright lies.

You’ve got it. The law-abiding, mind your own business citizen has to jump through an increasing number of hoops in the course of every day personal or professional life. It’s a generational trend, but it has accelerated dramatically under Obama and then Biden/Harris/Squad leadership.

At the same time, it appears to the harried citizen that imported riff-raff are just too numerous to be hassled, and are given a pass on many of these matters. And, merit has been largely buried by DEI.

A Hispanic I know has so many code violations it’s amazing. He has a sister-in-law living full time in a trailer on his R1 property. And he built a free-standing small house with no plumbing for his mother-in-law in his side yard. When the code inspector started to hassle him, he just spoke Spanish to him and the guy left. Never to return. I’d have been sued and forced to remove the extremely obvious violations. While I think someone should be able to use their property to the maximum advantage, his Anglo neighbors can’t. This torques my butt.

My theory: they didn’t cheat enough. I assume that, after a lot of soul searching, their game plan will be to manipulate and cheat even better.

Obama said, “Never underestimate Joe’s ability to f*ck thing up”. That was Obama. That being said, Harris seems blessed with the same gift! Harris campaign was “ Turning the page”, “A new way forward”. Harris wouldn’t change a thing. Even the ladies of the view were stunned by Harris’s response, “I can’t think of a thing”. The panel of “The View” are not an intellectual power house but they understood how intellectually vapid Harris’s answer was.

I quit voting for democrats at any level, because, to kill a weed, you have to cut it out at the root.
