The mega state periodically does things to force us to spend money. They regularly make whatever refrigerant your air conditioner uses illegal and force you to buy yet another more expensive and less usable one. As a landlord they force me to use a company to do any repairs on my property and that costs literally tens of times more money than if I do them myself. There’s a law. I can’t put on my own roof or fix my own plumbing. The list of money grabbing goes on and on. Don’t get me started on “self-financing” government departments. In Tallahassee there’s a federal, state, county and city EPA. The last two are self-financed. They have written voluminous rules. They can start on any street corner and go in any direction and write expensive code violations. Oh, and they’re dressed as cops, carry guns and make arrests. Not for crimes. But for code violations. To force compliance those violations are defined as “criminal.” So, if you want your “criminal” record expunged you’ll pay the fines and pay for the “offenders’ class.”
You’ve got it. The law-abiding, mind your own business citizen has to jump through an increasing number of hoops in the course of every day personal or professional life. It’s a generational trend, but it has accelerated dramatically under Obama and then Biden/Harris/Squad leadership.
At the same time, it appears to the harried citizen that imported riff-raff are just too numerous to be hassled, and are given a pass on many of these matters. And, merit has been largely buried by DEI.
I thought Florida was freer than that. Wow.
I explained to the mayor of the town, that he had a little ceaser in charge of regulation and if he didn’t like the way I managed property, I would sell it to immigrants at a high price and explained to him what it would look like then. He said, “don’t do that.” I haven’t heard from the city since.
