Is Clint Eastwood Being Targeted for his Political Leanings?
American Thinker ^ | 13 Nov, 2024 | Rajan Laad

Clint Eastwood's recent directorial effort Juror #2 received strong reviews from critics and blandishments from the audiences.

Rotten Tomatoes summarized the critic's opinion about the film:

"A legal thriller with a heavy conscience, Juror #2 is less a summation of Clint Eastwood's storied directorial career than another terrific reminder of his knack for plain-spoken drama."

The film is also being called one of the best films of the year.

What has baffled admirers of Eastwood and industry observers is how Warner Brothers mishandled the cinema distribution of the film. Released on November 1, the film is currently playing in fewer than 50 cinemas across the U.S.

To put this in perspective, the same film will be released in more than 300 cinemas in the UK. The U.S. has around 5000 cinemas while the UK has around 1000 cinemas.

Since the award season has just begun, it is customary for films to be initially released on select screens and then gradually expand nationwide. However, this doesn't seem to be the case with Juror#2.

Despite critical acclaim, the film didn't feature on Warner Bros’s 'For Your Consideration 'website, meant for Oscar hopefuls.

The film had its premiere at the AFI festival in October, which Eastwood skipped.

Warner Bros hasn't even revealed the U.S. box office returns for the film.

So what's going on here?

Gotta check that out. Sounds like it’s well worth seeing. Clint Eastwood is one of only a handful of famous showbiz types who doesn’t need to care what his fellow showbiz folks think of him. I can’t recall how many Eastwood things I’ve seen but three great ones come quickly to mind:

Bridges of Madison County (Yah,there are one or two chick flicks that I like)
Gran Turino
American Sniper

Clint Eastwood is bigger than Hollywood. Put his resume against anybody else’s in the history of filmmaking and he dwarfs them. He doesn’t care. Hollywood is broke and broken.

Come on, we are talking about Dirty Harry, he’s over 90 years old, made a ton of money and great movies, I don’t think for one second he cares about what critics say about him or the movies he might continue to make.

Agreed. Most excellent comment.

But it does look like they’re putting the screws to him in his twilight.

International Movie database shows a rating of 7.3 out of 10. That’s pretty good.

I pretty much like everything he’s been involved in, whether acting, directing, etc.

Don’t forget his empty chair on the stage during the election.

I doubt that Clint Eastwood is being sabotaged for political reasons. I suspect the underlying problem is that WBD has lost its direction. It seems to be floundering, bleeding money and making far too many bad decisions and bad movies.

The company is deeply indebted from the merger and David Zaslav — who is from the Discovery/low cost trash tv side of the combo — has been slashing things left and right. Given the overall state of Hollywood, pruning would be good if the people doing it were committed to making great movies. It’s not clear that is the case at WBD. Zaslav seems to be fully committed to streaming supremacy and spends a lot of time talking about how the streaming business needs to consolidate because three or four big streamers could act as a cartel to jack up prices. I suspect WBD will also be right behind Disney in the race to throw writers and actors over the side and go all-in on AI and CGI.

I don’t have a crystal ball, but I would not be surprised if WBD is broken up and sold in the next few years. Warner Pictures has been floundering for a long time. Apple and Amazon have the deepest pockets in the industry. Netflix was the first mover in the streaming wars and has a huge advantage as the longtime industry giant. Disney limps along with revenues from the parks and merchandise subsidizing its disastrous recent record on movies.

Maybe Elon Musk could buy WBD and give it a coherent strategic mission.

Unlike many American guys of my age I was never a huge fan of Westerns...as a kid or as an adult. But I just remembered another thing that I really liked...Dirty Harry.

"It can blow your head clean off"

"Well,do ya punk?"

Don't know the plot, but it must skewer some Commie diety or commandment. It is telling how the commies hear their own death knell and keep trying to postpone the inevitable.

And amazing how clueless, petty, awkward, and unseemly they are in the process.

Why not bash Santa Claus while they are working out on Clint Eastwood?

Why make the effort? The best course is to allow Warner to just die.

We have three of the Dirty Harry movies recorded on DirecTV and watch them often. I love them!

Also the Death Wish movies; even the one with Bruce Willis.
