MSNBC (aka:MSDNC) Loses Over Half Of Its Primetime Audience As Ratings Tank

MSNBC once again beat CNN in the ratings game, but for all the wrong reasons.

New Nielsen ratings show the liberal network has lost more than half of its primetime audience since President-elect Donald Trump’s victory last week, a sea change that signals its viewers are discouraged and tired of the spin. Fox News reported that MSNBC saw a 54% ratings drop after averaging 1.1 million primetime viewers for most of October. That number stood at 736,000 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of last week. The change comes as Fox News’s viewership climbed 61% in the same three-day period, a “Trump bump” that has executives elated.

On the year, MSNBC’s viewership is down 26%, which is already bad enough, but things get worse when looking underneath the hood. During the 8-11 p.m. primetime slots, MSNBC averaged 1.8 million viewers throughout October with shows like “Alex Wagner Tonight,” “All in with Chris Hayes” and “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell.” On average, those longtime hosts now see just over 800,000 nightly viewers. Its biggest drop occurred in the critical 18-54 demographic where 57% of viewers have fled the network for greener pastures.

By comparison, CNN experienced 44% fewer viewers on election night compared to 2020. That dip was enough for Chris Wallace, who announced on Tuesday his decision to abruptly walk away from contract discussions after three years with the network and declared his intent to jump into the world of podcasting.

MSNBC did not respond to a request for comment from Fox. A longtime TV executive who wished to remain anonymous predicted the beginning of a second Trump administration will be a difficult period for the ratings-challenged liberal network. “As its poor post-election night ratings show, MSNBC should not expect a ‘Trump Bump’ this time around. Even liberals are rejecting its condescending tone and the divisive rhetoric of its new standard-bearer, Joy Reid,” the executive said.

Sharon Waxman, editor of TheWrap and a reliable MSNBC viewer, wrote following Trump’s victory that the “media had got it wrong” and needs to tone down the noise. “If you’re like me, you haven’t turned on the news since last Tuesday when Donald Trump won the election. Personally, I can’t bear to listen to another minute of wisdom from Joy Reid, my friend Lawrence O’Donnell or the admirable Rachel Maddow,” Waxman wrote. “I can’t do it. I’m not saying I’ll never watch or listen again. But – am I alone here? – my entire body recoils from listening to more claptrap from the same claptrapping apparatus.”

Leftist are crawling out of their echo chamber holes and discovering that they’ve been BS’d for a long time. I currently have a discussion with an old friend on Facebook explaining to him why the Democrats lost. He’s not ready to hear it and he may disown me, but so be it. Many are still not ready to be red-pilled, nut a lot are. The Democrats abused their voters and many of them are tired of the emotional manipulation.

Losing election week - means absolutely nothing.

As soon as the plots to undermine Trump start getting launched, all the lefties will be back, in their cheerleader mode with rapt attention.

spit.

Fox News is totally worthless. They can't even do SIMPLE math.

1.1 million to 736,000 is a 33% drop, not 54%.

Rush Limbaugh had it right years ago when he said, the majority of Americans are conservative. Now here we are.

Too young for Walter Cronkite, too old for TikTok. It's kind of an important demographic...

I don’t know; that seems pretty sexist to me. Time to call the thought police.

Ratings “tank”?! Tank was used 15 years ago. They’re beyond “tank”.

All their current ratings come from people like me who are rejoicing at their pain post-Trump landslide.

I apologize for wasting space here on such an unserious topic like a discussion on a historical media outlet that is now a nothingburger and self-destructed. There are serious problems to solve in this country and hearing about this outlet is just a reminder that there have been media outlets that have been so focused on propaganda, so focused on their hate agenda, so unfocused on the truth, and have thus destroyed their credibility.

But maybe it is a good reminder that if anyone ever tries to make an argument using MSNBC (or other media outlets) like them as reference then I can simply reply:

Let’s have a serious discussion and not one that’s going to get into the false claims, hatred, and anti-Democracy nonsense like that media outlet has done so much in the future. Let’s focus on the actual facts. What was actually said? Where’s a link to the full context?

Another thing to ask anyone with ideas or thoughts about things in American government is whether or not they really understand the government. Where have they ever communicated awareness that it’s a Constitutional Republic and done any real explanations that show that they really understand how the system was designed and how it works? How well are they aware of the federal financial situation on how much the debt is, what annual interest rates have been historically on the National Debt, how much we are paying for debt interest now, what are the deficits, how much of the deficit is the imbalance of CMS revenues/outlays, what percentage of annual workers’ gross wages is the federal government spending, bringing in as receipts, and what is sustainable? How well do they know the Bill of Rights? What have they done to demonstrate that they support our 1st and 2nd Amendment rights? Have they ever supported any anti-Democracy political parties? What have they specifically written down or done to address the concerns about 2024 Election interference, such as the cases against Trump in Georgia & New York, or the activities of Jack Smith? What do they know and understand about the prosecutor who was fired for investigating Burisma? Where have they ever expressed their thoughts about the 50+ intelligence officials who lied about the Hunter Biden laptop? What have they ever done to try to improve voter authentication standards in America? What evidence do they have that Biden actually got as many voters as was claimed? Where is there evidence that people actually didn’t vote in 2024 after voting in 2020 and when media news stories were claiming record turnout (until after the totals for most precincts were released & then suddenly they notice that over 10 million votes may have disappeared OR were they never actually people votes in 2020)?

It’s these types of questions that the formerly common media outlet that is the subject of this thread don’t seem to answer and why they have lost their credibility and they are nothings now, except reminders that there are dishonest/hateful folks out there who talk in their echo chambers but nobody really honest/informed cares for them anymore.

All of its listeners thought for sure Harris would get
140% of the vote...

A lot of woke folks thought they had a real lock on it.

I’d be pretty danged angry if I were them.

We tried to tell them those networks lied...

Surprising - I thought that they would have great ratings with the entire station going goofy over the election.
