They wanted to eliminate the filibuster to codify Roe, stack the SCOTUS. This is our only time we can play hardball to save the country.
.As we saw with President Trump's first term, remain in Mexico policy and reducing regulations were very easily reversed once the Democrats came into power. No matter how much good the POTUS does with immigration and reducing regulations and taxes, if we do not keep winning elections, it's all very temporary and the Dems will get worse and worse after this.
So as unpalatable as it is, we have no choice but to ensure we keep winning elections for at least the next 20 to 25 years. That should create a fundamental change for the good that is lasting for the country. The only way to do that is to have fair elections. We would win consistently if we had fair elections. So even if we have to do away with the filibuster and play hardball and maybe even creatively bend the rules, we have to do it now. Our Republic's survival depends on our winning consistently.
Terrible idea.
No, bad idea.
But I do like spreading the rumor that the plan is to kill the filibuster, pass laws implementing 100$ of Project 2025, then put it back again.
Just to watch heads explode.
Neither thune or cornyn as majority leader would be allowed to support it.
No, if anything, let’s strengthen it, at very least with codification, or even better, a constitutional amendment requiring a supermajority for major legislation. And while we’re at it, let’s add an amendment requiring voter ID, that non-citizens do not count in census totals for purposes of representation, and fixing the Supreme Court at 9 justices.
Don't be fooled by the rhetoric. They never wanted to "end the filibuster," they only wanted to suspend it so they could pass the laws that benefited them.
If they had the votes to "end the filibuster" via the "nuclear option," they also had the votes to restore the filibuster via the same process once they got the laws they wanted passed.
Perhaps President-Elect Trump should pursue a plank to remove the nuclear option from the Senate?
Perhaps President-Elect Trump should work with Senate leadership to pass a Senate rule that challenges to the Cloture rule are no longer up to the discretion of the Senate Parliamentarian?
Let's take that threat to regular order off of the table once and for all, unless the nation elects a super-majority in the Senate.

Something to plan on for discussion at a later time.
Did the Democrats ever bring up any bill to enlarge the Supreme Court?
What else do you want? A Time Machine and Elon Musk's money and Ms Universe as a wife?
How would you pass necessary election reform without the cooperation of Senate Democrats? Let’s hear your idea.
Play their game. DJT should announce 4 new SC justices on Jan 21.
They have had opportunities to do that since Roe V Wade was enacted and they never did it. Want to know why? Because it was an issue they could always use to scare women with to vote for Democrats.
Well now might be the time
Right now there is only one Republican Senator from a Blue State, Susan Collins of Maine who is up in 2026. However, there are many Democrat senators in Red or leaning red states that could be ripe for the picking.
In 2026 for example Republicans have 20 seats to defend vs 13 Dem, but besides the aforementioned Collins, they are all in safe Red States (Maybe Tilles in NC could be vulnerable too), but Republicans can pickup seats in Georgia and Michigan
For the foreseeable future, the Senate will stay Red, Dems have little chance and 52 Seats is probably the floor of Republican Control.
So barring catastrophe there is little chance of the Republicans losing the Senate anytime, possibly for decades, so Dems won’t get a chance to use it against us anytime soon.
This is all tongue in cheek satire, right? It’s just to freak out liberals because that’s exactly what they really want to do.
We have laws now, including immigration laws. The left selectively enforces the laws they like and ignores (or creatively interprets) those they don’t...
Not if ratified via a convention of the states. Public support levels would indicate that at least the 9-justice amendment and the voter ID amendment could pass.
I hate the filibuster, BUT
WE DEFINITELY SHOULD NOT GET RID OF IT.
It keeps us all civilized.
Truth.
You are correct, the 2026 election should muster as many down ballot Republicans votes as we did this time. We must keep the pressure on or we will lose it all.
Trump should announce in his speech on January 20th that he has carefully reviewed the Democrat proposals and agrees with them and will take immediate action to implement them starting with SCOTUS. Announce that there will be four additional justices. Cruz, Levin, Turley and Piro. Then lock it down forever.
