I’m grateful that they’re dead.
Kidding. God rest his soul.
I saw them seven times. Those moments are priceless. We knew it then, and know it even more now.
When Jerry died a part of America died too IMO. A last experience of wild, natural freedom but contained in a moral society.
Thank you Phil, Godspeed.
Box of Rain.
Phil wrote it about his father who had cancer.
RIP.
To anyone wondering what this is all about, this is some of Phil’s best work. Just listen to the bass.

“They aren’t the best at what they do, they are the only ones that do what they do”
I’m a little misty myself.
Glue guy... giant bass player, great musician.
I never saw them, either. I couldn’t understand the Dead Heads, until one night I went to see a Grateful Dead cover band that played the tunes you didn’t hear on the radio. That music was great live.
I’ve seen dozens of different bands in concert.
The best: The Grateful Dead. By far.
RIP Phil.
RIP, Phil.
A fine bass man…
Saw them about five times. Phil on the base was amazing. That van sure could put on a show. And it seems like they did it about 300 nights a year, and these are long shows. I don’t know how they did it…
This is an iconic show. When have you ever seen rose petals thrown at a band throughout a show.

I did at least 6 different tours from coast to coast and saw every continental state thanks to the Dead. Phil was my favorite band member. Such a character.
‘zactly....
Ha! I had to get out my list and check the date.
It was October 1 1976 No opener bands, but they played for quite a while.
Since I had my list out, on October 9 1976 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Colosseum, we saw Black Oak Arkansas, Mahogany Rush and Angel.
Those were the days.......
Went to this concert at Roosevelt Stadium in NJ, Aug, 1st, 1973. It was Jerry Garcia’s birthday
