Known for her distaste for over-the-top, tech-heavy spaces (including their Washington home, the $130 million Xanadu 2.0), Melinda once shared in a CNN interview, “We certainly spend money on ourselves. You see it in the house that we built. We won’t have that house forever, though.”

... However, with the couple’s split before the yacht was finished, Gates decided to part ways with the $645 million behemoth, a reminder of their 27-year marriage. Now that Breakthrough has completed its sea trials, the vessel is seeking a new owner, perhaps another billionaire, before the end of this year.

It will be sold at a considerable loss. People with the money to purchase it don't want someone else's custom touches.

Custom crafted luxury items tend to sell a a considerable discount compared to what they cost to have been created.

“A boat is a hole in the water into which you pour money”...
And it never fills up.

I drill holes in the air.

I need to get somewhere fast. I never understood the high drag, puke filled, slow pitch, roll, and yaw of a boat being something people want to do?

I enjoy a cruise ship and the amenities for travel. I enjoy renting a jet ski for the afternoon for the excitement. That’s all I really need in life when it comes to boats.

I can’t imagine dropping $19-22k on a Jet Ski only to have it halve in value after one season and 100 hours of use when I can rent one for the afternoon for $200.

$100,000,000,0000 and I would change the world in ways the founders could only imagine.

It’s big enough to haul six of your little toy boats, a small cabin cruiser the size of the SS Minnow, and a helicopter.

Oh, and it cruises at over 55 mph with all that aboard. For WEEKS rather than the 6 hours your little bass boat maxes out at.

It is indisputable that life’s simple pleasures are the best. I wouldn’t trade places with either Bill or Melinda.

Used to fish for salmon on Monterey Bay not far from where John Denver learned about fuel management the hard way.
