A man paragliding over Egypt’s Great Pyramid of Giza on Monday spotted the jaw-dropping sight of a barking dog atop the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the World.
The footage of the Egyptian landmark — built more than 4,500 years ago — shows Marshall Mosher soaring in the desert sky in a paramotor when he zooms in on the top of the pyramid to find a dog casually having his day.
“A dog climbed all the way up the Great Pyramid of Giza!” Mosher wrote in amazement, with his clip going viral on Instagram. Many on the platform joked that Mosher and his friends had come across Anubis — the Egyptian god of the underworld who is often portrayed with a canine head — with the public dubbing the hound “Anubis Pup.”

Bark like an Egyptian.

The important part of the article is that the dog is fine and pictured on the ground. Apparently that dog and one other are local canines that frequently climb up and down the pyramid for fun and exercise. Now I’m reassured.
Dogs. Who knows what goes on in their dog-minds! But...the Pyramids are nothing to sneeze at.
When I was in the Navy, we made a port call to Alexandria, Egypt, and they had tours out to the Pyramids.
This was back in a time when you were allowed to climb on them, and many sailors did. The blocks at the bottom were larger, IIRC you had to hoist yourself up on the first few, but after that, you could kind of climb them.
The problem was, as you went further up, the stones became progressively rounded and crumbly, with grit and sand on them.
I got a few levels up, and in a flash of realization, understood that if I slipped, I was going to go all the way down the side of that pyramid and get killed, if not badly hurt. I gingerly climbed down, and that was that.
I have heard that a tourist was killed in just this fashion some years ago, and they banned climbing it after that on the basis that they were precious antiquities.
That’s not pharaoh.
Thanks nickcarraway. Now if only I could remember which FReeper told me about her appearance atop the Great Pyramid, in the old TV show, "In Search Of...", when Nimoy et al visited Giza...
Can’t just call him “King”...
That is fantastic. I loved that show as a kid.

A 'new biz' pup.
“We live in an era where the extraordinary is within reach, more than ever before, so why not chase the life of our dreams!?
Heheh, that’s good...:)
Yup. Not sure she wants to discuss it in open thread, so, sorry, I faux pax’d.
Oh, really? I’d be proud.
Regardless we Freepers get around it seems.
Dog thinks; “Now, who was it, that told me there were girls living in a little house at the top?”
Some of us rounder than others...
Thanks, that’s the one.
