With Hurricane Milton hitting winds of up to 180 miles per hour and at such a high speed, scientists are wondering if the storm defies the five category system and should go up to a Category 6.
Florida’s Gulf Coast braced on Tuesday for the impact of Hurricane Milton’s near-record winds and expected massive storm surge, which could bring destruction to areas already reeling from Helene’s devastation 12 days ago and still recovering from Ian’s wrath two years ago.
Almost the entirety of Florida’s west coast was under a hurricane warning early on Tuesday as the Category 5 storm and its 165mph winds crept toward the state at 9mph, sucking energy from the Gulf of Mexico’s warm water.
The strongest Atlantic hurricane on record is 1980’s Allen, which reached wind speeds of 190 mph as it moved through the Caribbean and Gulf before striking Texas and Mexico.
The storm, which CNN called 'the strongest on Earth in 2024,' was described by an Orlando meteorologist as 'nothing short of astronomical.'
'I am at a loss for words to meteorlogically describe you the storms small eye and intensity,' Noah Bergen said.

Isn’t there some thought that a cold front will knock it back down to a cat 3 before land fall? Or was that wishful thinking?
For those not planning to evacuate and not wanting to write their names on their arms, here’s some alternate names you might want to consider:
Ima Boat
Stormy Weathers
Noah Vessels
Wade Rippels
Ty Phoon
Gale Windsworth
Sandy Shores
Rainy Dayze
Flo Oates
Sunny Showers
Dusty Cloud
Breezy Waters
Shel Terdock
Tide Turner
Will D. Waves
SunkenCiv...wait that one’s taken.
Everyone knows it’s Windy!
IIRC, Camille was a small, compact storm........
Pressure is 1006 in Tampa right now, and only 1003 across the keys. Unless the pressure trough moves north, the keys are the most likely path at this time.
Still dubious it was ever that strong. I believe nothing reported by our government or its tentacles (such as the NHC). The Agenda is more important than any paltry fact.
My prediction. Milton will weaken dramatically as it approaches landfall (where someone independent and honest can measure and report the actual numbers).
But it made a great story for a while. One of the “strongest hurricanes in history” coming so late in the season absolutely proves the global-warming agenda.
This is bigger than a Bomb Cyclone! (the storm, not the band)
I doubt everything that this government says or does now. The push for their agenda enables the narrative. The free speech of the press is gone and so is ours. The same ones who brought you joe biden are feeding the stupid in this country, shiney objects.
Whenever I think about the hurricane path I picture a wheel spinning and grinding against the land.
That usually gives a pretty good approximation of where it’s going to go.
I was right about Hélene. It hit right around the curve Panhandle area of the Gulf. And All That friction around such a wide curved area caused it to stall. And it just dumped all that power.
lol at the “kamalaganda” in the article.
You’d think she was on the beach casting off the storm with magical powers instead of snorting coke and having a drink as she tried to read off a teleprompter
We’ll find out eventually how dialed-in their algorithm is I suppose.

Right now it looks like my spring vacation to Anna Maria Island may be cancelled. Seriously though, prayers and best wishes for all those under threat from this storm. I hope it turns out to be a nothingburger.

In that case I hope you’re wrong, because it’s currently sitting at 897Mb.

“I doubt everything that this government says or does now.”
Why does the Weather Channel radar not show this storm in the Gulf of Mexico?
“Everyone knows it’s Windy!”
😁🎶
“We’ll find out eventually how dialed-in their algorithm is I suppose.”
It might end up where they say it was going to, but I have been documenting it with screenshots and it is almost humorous how they tried to steer it in the direction they wanted it to go with their “forecasted path” that kept changing to fit their narrative. They have even erased the historical path where it was going due North towards Texas before it actually did a U turn back towards Mexico instead of east towards Florida.
It was 180 mph most of yesterday. There was even a brief point earlier in the day Monday where it was listed at 185. The air pressure also got as low as 897 yesterday. Some storms are stronger winds, some are lower pressure. Milton seems to be both.
That would be bad. I’m in the Keys and nobody here is preparing.
