The wildlife area is teeming with big alligators left alone to live to an old age.
An unidentified man recently caught a 750-pound alligator during an organized hunt at James E. Daughtrey Wildlife Management Area in South Texas.

A Texas man recently bagged what might just be one of the largest alligators ever hunted in the Lone Star State. Last month, the unidentified man participated in an organized hunt with four others inside the 26,000-acre Choke Canyon Reservoir. The South Texas lake, which is part of the James E. Daughtrey Wildlife Management Area (WMA), is teeming with giants. Unlike other alligators in the state, creatures in the area are left alone to live to a ripe old age, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).
Wildlife officials at James E. Daughtrey WMA said each of the hunters harvested "bull gators," massive and dominant male alligators (aka alpha male alligators) which are known to rule swamps and even kill other male alligators. Photos shared by officials on Facebook depicted gigantic gators weighing anywhere between 400 and 600 pounds. However, none were able to match or outdo the man's prize, which measured a whopping 13 feet and 8 inches long and weighed 750 pounds.
I was only giving you the information in case you had thoughts, as I did before reading the regs, of heading down there to shoot at gators.
I like the fact that there are still areas in the continental USA remote and wild enough for alligators to live long lives and grow to monstrous size where they endanger no one. I don’t have any desire to kill one, but I do not begrudge anyone who does.
I’d rather shoot hundreds of grass carp in a day with my bowfishing bow.
Supposedly average alligator weight is about 790 lbs...so 750 lbs represents average American gator size.... it’s GIGANTIC if it has you in its grip and has you in a death roll however
That is one nasty looking gator.
I’d love to see the hook this guy used. A 9-0 hook is only 3” long, that thing would have bent it straight in an instant.
Why don’t they catch them and relocate them to the Rio Grande? Plenty of live meat for them to catch and eat there!
Holy smokes, Texas has Alligators that big?
This is why I will never live in one of those gatored communities.
And I’m thinking something like an 18” long piece of #4 rebar bent around a piece of 2” steel pipe and sharpened.
Not sure in this case but most of the ones harvested commercially are caught first and then shot.
Looks like a place where I’d go for a quick swim. Hope they put up signs!
750lbs? Maybe big for a gator, but puny for a Salty:
Lolong (died 10 February 2013) was the largest crocodile in captivity. He was a saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) measured at 6.17 m (20 ft 3 in), and weighed 1,075 kg (2,370 lb), making him one of the largest crocodiles ever measured from snout-to-tail.
I’ve fished in Choke Canyon a lot.
It’s got some monster gators there.
Wild feral hogs go there to rut, feed and drink.
Those gators feast on those hogs and get big doing it.
Lots!.......
Ok.....now what does he do with it?......I bet that tail meat is tough as shoe leather. Lol!
And in the Texas heat that jokers’ gonna start decomposing fast.
>>>...that tail meat is tough as shoe leather...<<<
Gonna need more marinade.....................
Lots of Trump flags and signs on your property, to lure them in?
