Walz-Vance debate revealed differences (but was too friendly)
American Thinker ^ | 2 Oct, 2024 | E. Jeffrey Ludwig

Tim Walz and J.D. Vance debated Wednesday night.

The debate was gracious on both sides. The moderators of the debate asked a number of policy questions, and each candidate answered giving some deference to the other candidate and in most cases suggesting there was some room for compromise on specific laws/policies that would need to be enacted during the next four years.

Yet the tone of good will and compromise that each tried to establish to some degree was false and misleading. The differences between the two candidates and the presidential candidates with whom each is running could not be more profound.

One candidate -- Walz -- represents government solutions to all problems, or, in other words, some form of socialism or communism to establish “fairness” in governance, while the Trump camp supports our federal system of government with its checks and balances between the states and the federal government and the respective branches of government, and the supply and demand marketplace to solve more of our economic issues.

For example, Trump wants to tax imports from Asian countries where goods are made by workers sometimes paid a mere $3 a day, and provide tax breaks for companies to establish plants in the U.S. to produce goods rather than create plants in those Asian countries like the PRC, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, etc.

Thus, the Trump administration would be resisting the trend towards globalization of markets and reinforce the need to bring jobs back to the U.S. He would penalize the exporting of jobs by multinational corporations.

The Democrats support a green energy agenda while Trump and the Republicans are committed to free markets and the continued viability of oil, gas, and coal as the basis of our wealth and productivity. The Democrats believe in continual negotiation with dictators and belligerent

I thought Walz came off looking like a bug-eyed angry person.

Women tend to like nice. Trump needs women vote.

Oh, yeah. The split camera was Vance’s friend, and not Hairy Balz’s.

The debate was “nice” (I prefer “civil”) ONLY because Vance LED it that way and refused to be rattled. It will accrue to the Trump/Vance ticket’s benefit, IMO.

Yes and Amen! What’s more I think “young folks” (at my age that means “under 50”, LOL!) saw a role model in J. D. Vance as well.

Look at our politicians in DC, my esteemed colleague across the aisle or some BS like that, I’ve always hated hearing that. For how many years have we heard how they might argue in the senator in the house but then they’re out to dinner and over at each other‘s homes, laughing it up at our expense.

It’s obvious that the MAGA movement is tired of the show. We want Trump and we want more people like him, but they just aren’t out there.

The most beautiful thing I ever heard on the floor as when Obama was speaking, and my representative yelled “You lie!”

There needs to be more of that and more often.

That was three against one. That Walz guy had practiced speeches for those preplanned questions then Vance was thrown off by being given different questions. Walz spewed un addressed lies, no response by Vance was allowed

All Vance had to do was be friendly then get out of there - no one cares about this debate

Jesus told his disciples travel in twos to spread the Word. This kind of thing is why. Vance had no chance. What he did was fine

So, which is it? Everyone’s panties are twisted up because the Trump/Harris debate featured so much rancor, or the VP debate was too mealy? Or both?
Every time Vance landed a well-struck factoid, Walz would look at the camera with a very well-practiced face of stupefied disbelief, as if to say, ‘Get a load of this nonsense!’
Vance got himself some good exposure last night.

I thought Vance did well. He seemed much smarter than Walz and he seemed nice which is what Trump needs to get more of the women’s vote. Under the circumstances I don’t think Vance could have done much better.

He reminded me of Don Rickles. I was waiting for him to call Vance a hockey puck.

.....”Tim Walz and J.D. Vance debated Wednesday night....” Hmmm...maybe I missed something but I thought I saw this lame excuse of a “debate” last night, which according to my calendar was Tuesday night...

Exactly. Many commenters on X on FR wanted more sturm und drang but Vance cemented as warm, articulate, brilliant, concerned, forceful and uncompromising but unthreatening is a very smart mood.
People on the fence would have been repelled by a very aggressive Vance where the Vance they were shown would be very appealing.

‘He seemed nice which is what Trump needs to get more of the women’s votes.’
I think the only way Trump will get more women’s votes will be to promise a federal law enshrining their right to kill babies through the full nine months and beyond. Which he isn’t going to do. Besides, the dems would just up the ante by promising to pay every woman a bounty on every baby aborted. Sad to say...

Yes - Mrs. Caprock explained, again, President Trump’s effect on women. No matter how dire the situation, decorum ALWAYS reigns supreme among the girls.

I thought he was misleading.

He didn’t come across as a far leftist, from one of the most liberal states that did things like allow BlmTifa to burn cities for 3 days then used troops to shoot rubber bullets into people watching from their porches (look it up..videos). He portrayed himself as a reasonable left of center moderate.

Vance should have attacked him more on that.

“argue in the senator in the house but then they’re out to dinner and over at each other‘s homes”

Yep, aptly nicknamed the ‘uniparty.’ The GOPe and the rats have worked together for decades and especially the last few presidencies to ruin America and pretty much succeeded. For those that think we have a republican party and a democrat party for a fantasy government are delusional. $36,000,000,000,000 in debt and growing exponentially will be ultimately what brings our nation down completely. (And illegals)
