No, listening to anyone employing critical thinking is a lot like listening to sweet music or a talented comedian. It feels good.
You have to be capable of it yourself, and exercising it, to appreciate it.

Critical thinking is exercise for the brain. It expands the mind, helps one to grow mentally, and keeps you sharp. No pain, no gain.

Yes, as with all things, moderation is necessary. Just as it is possible to overexert the body with excessive exercise, it is necessary to rest the mind once in a while. Prayer is often a good way to do that, but sometimes you just need entertainment that doesn’t tax the brain so much as relax it (I like games like Tetris for that, as an example.

But the way I see it, a little deep thought once in a while never hurt anyone.

“the old adage that thinking hard really is hard work”

Seems more like you people just made up that “adage” a few days ago.

Rather pathetic post-scientific analysis of well-known phenomena. Concentration is stressful compared to passive receptive posture; Critical thinking may induce awareness of the need to change some behavior or cognition, which leads to cognitive dissonance and is also stressful; the speculations about evolution etc are the post-scientific part, as they are idle ruminating without evidence. Sad commentary on the state of psychology, plowing over old ground for the hundredth time, just to get a publication.

In my view, folks do not have a choice of being able to turn off their critical thinking.

Some have it and analyze every situation. It doesn’t matter what it is.

I was accused 40 years ago of thinking to much. That was USAF.

I to this day do not know what that means.

It boils down to preservation.

People don’t like it, I guess.

New Study Confirms: Critical Thinking Is Mentally Draining and Inherently Unpleasant

Then call me a sucker for punishment.

For me, listening to and being expected to swallow, without complaint or contradiction, flawed arguments is much more "draining" and "unpleasant."

Allowing those defective thoughts to seep into my mind and incorporating them into my worldview would be agony.
