For the most part, I believe the women. Their allegations are detailed and have some independent corroboration. Moreover, the British legal system is much less indulgent toward false allegations and fabrication by plaintiffs than the American legal system.

I also surmise that part of why the British royal family was so hostile to Dianna's romance with Dodi was that, due to comprehensive security surveillance, they knew about his father Mohammed Al Fayed's predations and feared that William and Harry could be drawn into that kind of life.

Within limits, the British public will tolerate sexual misconduct among Britain's royals and aristocrats, but not when it extends to royals being pals with dissolute foreigners and preying upon ordinary and often vulnerable women.
