Iconic 78-year-old food container pioneer Tupperware filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Tuesday, Sept. 17 amid a years-long slump in sales.
The company known worldwide for its "Tupperware Parties" is now seeking court approval to continue operating during the proceedings as it pursues a sale.
"Whether you are a dedicated member of our Tupperware team, sell, cook with, or simply love our Tupperware products, you are a part of our Tupperware family," said President and Chief Executive Officer Laurie Ann Goldman. "We plan to continue serving our valued customers with the high-quality products they love and trust throughout this process.
"Over the last several years, the company's financial position has been severely impacted by the challenging macroeconomic environment.
As a result, we explored numerous strategic options and determined this is the best path forward.
"This process is meant to provide us with essential flexibility as we pursue strategic alternatives to support our transformation into a digital-first, technology-led company better positioned to serve our stakeholders."
Tupperware, headquartered in Orlando, Florida, was founded by chemist Earl Tupper in 1946.
I looked at their website and it occurs to me that despite all the products they didn’t keep up with changes in the market. For instance, I couldn’t find a cat storage container or taco holders.
I know. We have stuff from our parents. Well-made, lasts forever. Their downfall I guess, but there are room for improvements and keeping up with the times.

Like an app... which might have worked but it’s hard to say. I think they’re overhead was too high they could have gotten into camping products selling stock to outlets another camping related stores. There’s a bunch of stuff they could have done.
I used to work for this lady that hosted all kinds of home parties, Tupperware parties, weddings stuff parties, even lingerie and adult toy parties. She was a party animal, and every time you turned around she was in your Cube trying to invite you or the wife to another party... catalogs, cookies... sort of harassing in a lot of ways, Amway, Shockly, you name it she sold it. I don’t know if she ever made any money but from what I’ve observed over many years is these people really don’t make any money they just get free products if that.
by not paying the license fee.
Yes Cleverware took a big chunk out of storing containers many stores were paid not to handle them it’s a good product freeze it microwave it no stains.
I think the problem is that its competitors were cheaper and consumers went for the lower price.
I think the Tupperware were better but hey
Pyrex branded cookware is now (since the 1980’s) made with soda-lime glass. It is not as heat resistant as the original boro-slicate glass, but is somewhat stronger otherwise.
(We have both the old and new versions. The old is colorless while the new has a bluish tint.)
