Warren Buffett, one of the wealthiest people in the world with a net worth of $142 billion, according to Bloomberg, is also known for his generosity. He has donated billions to charity over the years, but when it comes to his kids, handouts aren’t part of the deal.
In the HBO Becoming Warren Buffett documentary, Susie Buffett shared a story that gives a glimpse into her father's frugality. This wasn't the first time she had discussed it. Back in 2011, a Globe and Mail article mentioned that Susie once asked her father for a $41,000 loan to renovate her kitchen after she had a baby. She needed to make room for the high chair, but Warren's response was to tell her to "go to the bank like everyone else."

I’m sure there’s a lot more to this story.
I am really stunned by the comments. Class envy is so unattractive.
I believe you are correct. It’s a sorry human being who so quickly supports the murder of innocents but will not LOAN money to his own family. May God have mercy on his soul.
You got a good deal.
Yep! Don't tell me that Buffett (or his foundation) never donated money to build some solar-powered contraption in some gawd-forsaken Sub-Saharan country! A contraption that was either stripped for copper wiring or otherwise out of commission due to lack of maintenance within a short time!
Imagine asking "Daddy" Buffett for $40,000 for, say, "house renovation," and being told "No!" And then letting slip, "Then I suppose that we just won't be able to construct that wheelchair ramp for when you come and visit your grandkids!"
Regards,
Their ( elites ) kitchens are probalby bigger that 500 sq ft.
She probably doesn’t cook..............
I had read years ago that he had already given substantial amounts of money to his kids and had also let them know that they would be not inheriting his estate. Besides, haven’t they learned know to invest from one of the greatest investors of all time, namely their father? You would think they’ve got to have some money in his Class A(or B?) stock.
Warren Buffet is a perfect example of a ROTTEN FATHER
What parent in their right mind would not be willing to help their child.
THAT GREAT FATHERLY LOOK ABOUT HIM. He looks like someone you could love at Christmas time...YET HE IS ONE OF THE COLDEST, NASTIEST, GREEDIEST INDIVIDUALS YOU COULD FIND.
UNLESS...AND THIS IS HUGH...HIS CHILDREN ARE LEFT LEANING COMMUNISTS...THEN...
HAVE AT IT, GRANDFATHER, YOU MANAGED TO HAVE ROTTEN KIDS.
Is there anything you could have done to SAVE THEM???
I hope he leaves this earth as miserably as he lived in it.
I had read years ago that he had already given substantial amounts of money to his kids and had also let them know that they would be not inheriting his estate.
You know what? That sounds right. I remember Gary Lewis saying it was no surprise to him after all he got all the boys together one day and told them they would not be getting anything. Gary said the other brothers seemed to have forgotten that or something.
His charity kills babies in eutero
Buffett is right they have to learn how business works.
Even Bill Gates said he won’t leave millions to his kids.
She asked for a “LOAN” - he should have complied imho.
Good response from Warren.
And you believe the Charity’s that Buffet donates(Not Loan) to, dont welch on
his money too?
In the end, it’s his money. He can do what he wants.
But what a prick.
Cold.
ESPECIALLY TO “MAKE ROOM FOR A HIGH CHAIR”.
AMERICAN KITCHENS HAVE HAD ROOM FOR HIGH CHAIRS FOR MANY YEARS.
IT IS A HIGH CHAIR-—AND kid will be OUT of it in less than 3 years.
I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE “REMODEL A KITCHEN TO MAKE ROOM FOR A HIGH CHAIR” AND I AM 84.
Not in today’s economy. She would be lucky to remodel a very small bathroom.
you don’t do it be cause you owe her. You do it because you can and it’s family.
