A self destruct mechanism doesn’t have to be powerful enough to blow your face off. It wouldn’t even need to be an explosive. It could be an electronic circuit that would fry all the other circuits. Probably only give off a puff of smoke.

They went to pagers because the cell phones were resulting in too many of them getting take out by Israel and the IDF. They thought it was safer communication.
They found out differently. Now what do they have? A bunch of seriously wounded and many blinded terrorists, and a bunch more pagers they can't use.
This is also providing Israel with intelligence that could never have gotten otherwise. Who they are, where they were, who was injured, where they lived or worked, who died.
The brilliance of this ‘op’ was that triggering the pagers to make noise before detonation.
Those injuries are much more severe than I heard/read in prior reports. Hands, holes in torsos, eye/face injuries...
...they must have had intel of something very serious coming down the pike to prosecute this.

Well would have to do something with the battery if it were a standard beeper.
But were they? Did the hezbos make sure they could be self destructed remotely to keep them from falling into enemy hands? Is they all were built with explosives in them that could be remotely detonated if needed?

It makes me wonder if Israel had control of the supply chain or had an inside information on the detonation code. Possibly if they acquired some units they might have reverse-engineered the mechanism.

I admire the Israelis. I always have. I appalled every single American doesn’t support their actions. ESPECIALLY after 9/11. A lot of people have simply forgotten, but I never will.
We don’t have to take joy in it, but these verminous beasts understand only this kind of war.

The theory that Hezbollah ordered phones from Taiwan preloaded with PETN “in case a terrorist and his pager should end up in Israeli hands” is just nonsense. Not sure where that speculative theory first emerged, but not much thought was put into it .
Hezbollah is not going to set thousandsCod it’s pagers to be able to simultaneously blow up when one message is sent out from the top “in case a terrorist and his pager should get captured.”
It’s like an accidental “send all” text. Remember Israel could not know everyones text number. And they did not put an explosive in every pager. Most likely that the pagers were made with a self destruct option. The device would receive a message that would set it off. Maybe the message had to come from headquarters. But its hard to believe that anyone but headquarters had all 2800 text numbers. The message had to come from there.
The point of a self destruct is if someones pager was lost or stolen they would blow it up instead of having it fall into the wrong hands. Unfortunately they sent a “send all” text instead of just sending the one to Mohamed. It was a simple mistake. Or the other possibility was that a normal send all text contained the self destruct code by accident. Either way its hard to believe Israel could pull this off without having a list of every single Hezbollah pager number. If they did, they have people in the highest levels of Hezbollah.

It was either a mistake by Hezbollah or an Israeli operation. Regardless it’s a massive disaster for them.
