African locusts (the notorious ones) have long, irregular cycles. I’m sure that the AGW/global warming/climate change hoaxters have their usual really convincing explanations for large outbreaks.

All locusts are crickets, but not all crickets are locusts.
In North America, there are long-cycle cicadas but as in all species there are some jerks who mess up and start eating out of turn. As agricultural pests go I don’t think they’re much to worry about. Cicadas are found in much of the world, as far as I know. And in The Iliad.
