Smacks of elitist pseudo enlightenment and condescension.

The idealistic hero who ventures out from the rigid establishment to pick flowers, do some LSD then comes back to live with Mommy and Daddy and experience the clashing of worlds.

Utopia and Reality collide. The enlightened traveler becomes radical and insists on implementing their version of “Community.”

I guess Plato was a democrat.

I can’t see the video because I have a dial-up modem but I always took a different lesson from Socrates story.

I think it shows those people who can only see shadows as the American people who can only get their world view filtered through leftist and purely Marxist news organizations. The shadows they are seeing is what they are letting us see and that is a false view of the world. One where a College fooball team is portrayed as the bad guys and surprise surprise, there isn’t a single Black on the team. I just saw that one tonight. Or a group of nerds only get help from an all Black fraternity. Or where girls easily out wrist wrestle guys despite the fact that on average they only have 30% of the upper body strength of boys.

Where muscular white guys throw javelins far shorter than a brainy Black nerd whose brilliant design flies further.

Living in a cave is a good way to describe most Americans, who buy into all the leftist lies about this country because they've never been outside of it, or even to any other part of it other than their own neighborhoods. So all rural white people are inbred racists because that's what the big pretty idiot box tells them. Meanwhile, all minorities are just good people who are being kept down by the system, if only Whitey would let them have a fair chance. Oh, and the USA is the most racist country in the world, because no other country ever discriminates in any way against their minority groups, and they all live in a rainbow utopia full of wealth and abundance, whereas the US has so many poor people. I swear, the entire Hollywood industry should be shot for treason.

Narrated by Orson Welles though he is not listed in the credits. Platonic idealism of seeing the truth; through the ancients never attempted to educate all men, the Enlightenment certainly tries and in this respect it tries to lead all men out of the cave. Whether that is a good thing or not was debated and the moderns (the Enlightenment) won, hence, progress and the conquest of nature through reason (science) to create the perfect city or society. The ancients didn’t believe that man could create perfection and in that respect Plato’s Republic (the perfect state where the cave analogy is used) is not likely to come to pass in nature or naturally. Besides, nobody would want that type of perfection — no private property, women fighters, no freedom of choice in sex partners, etc. — because it goes against nature.

And yet modernity has tried to create perfection with all its proud science and priestly cast of reasoners. Hubris? Yes. Marx was a product of the Enlightenment and thought he was doing science but he brought great misery. There are good things from science as well as bad — when will man learn wisdom? That is the whole idea of the cave.
