Kevin O'Leary rips workers who waste money buying daily cups of coffee: 'What are you, an idiot?'

"Shark Tank" star Kevin O'Leary isn't known to mince words, and his take on workers splurging on their daily cups of coffee and work lunches was no exception.

"Stop buying coffee for $5.50. You got to work and spend $15 on a sandwich – what are you, an idiot?" O'Leary, also known as Mr. Wonderful, said in a financial advice clip shared on Instagram last week.

Meh. I’m retired. Pretty much every morning I walk the dog down to the local coffee shop (not a chain) to get an espresso drink and then browse the news on my phone for a while. Very nice start to the day.

I’ll spend my money how I like plus the dog likes it.

Funny,

It used to be that employers feed coffee to employees for free.

Why?

Productivity.

At my workplace, despite having free coffee on each floor, employees are allowed to clock in, then 1-2 hours later waste 30 minutes going down to stand in line at the coffee shop.
Or they’ll clock in, then go get a full breakfast.
It’s ridiculous and a waste of money, but I blame the infantilization of the workforce.

Then add all the gay flavors you want, at a fraction of the cost.

You saying you don't like your hot chocolate tasting of pumpkin, coriander, nutmeg, cinnamon, and... ?

I have been drinking home-brewed Folgers (black) since my college days starting in 1979. Still use the same Stanley Thermos too!

I wish I was as thrifty with other things...

We grind Peet’s Major Dickason every morning with our wall-mounted Crystal Arcade #3 which I bought on eBay nearly thirty years ago for $25. It had a broken crankshaft which I repaired.. I often wonder if that isn’t the best purchase I ever made.

And if you let us work from home it would be like cheaper for us not to mention how much gas we would save. But then your commercial real estate and take it up the wazoo!

I knew a women years ago who told me she cut up her frozen spinach into four pieces (for four meals) to save money and that’s why she was rich.

The truth was she married an older wealthy man who left her a lot of money. She used the ‘spinach’ thing to tell herself and others that she had done so well because of her own effort and sacrifice. And that they would have money too if they weren’t so wasteful - overlaps some with the Kevin O’Leary style.

Also knew a young man who opened a retirement account with his first job, contributed the max and made other sound financial decisions and is now worth many millions - also overlaps with the Kevin O’Leary style...

Rhetorical question. Invest in a coffee machine and filters. Keep a liter of milk in the fridge. These are financial wizards? Alakazam! Money disappears.

Give me a good hot chocolate any time.

Coffee and alcohol are two things I could never get a taste for.

Since we’re sharing ideas...

Reusable kcups, 4/$9
https://www.amazon.com/Reusable-Cups-Keurig-Coffee-Makers/dp/B01MUDOK9P/ref=mp_s_a_1_16_sspa?

Mix Dunkin medium roast with dark roast at 4:1 rato

Inexpensive and very delicious.

I run the water through the cup of grounds twice. The first cup usually has a bit of coffee ground silt in the bottom of the 12oz. mug (~1/4”), which I leave there for the second run. I do this because with mild essential tremors, I don’t want too much caffeine in me. I cannot taste a difference between the first and second mug.

I rotate two refillable kcups, letting the grounds dry in one kcup for a day with the top open in an open Tupperware container. Then, when I rotate to that cup, I tap out the dried grounds into a bit larger and shallow open Tupperware to dry even further. Those used grounds are eventually scattered around the garden for excellent nitrogen. Be careful not to sprinkle this too heavy, or you’ll “nitrogen burn” your plants.

Saves money
Makes great coffee
Free fertilizer

Oh...the best kcup machine I’ve found is...
Chulux
https://www.amazon.com/CHULUX-Single-Coffee-Capsule-Reservoir/dp/B010NMMPH0/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?

FAR better than any keurig machine I’ve tried.
I believe the difference is that the chulux seals tighter, with more water pressure into the grounds.
This machine is a small footprint on the counter, reasonably priced, comes in a variety of colors and has been in service for years at the house. Check the reviews.

That’s all I’ve got on the subject and hope this is helpful.

Who needs milk?
Black, straight up with no
flavor disguisers.
My coffee pot is a very
old style percolater.
No paper filters. I can
brew it as weak or strong
as required, and patient
enough to let it happen.
Conveniences cost money.
The coffee pot never sees
dish soap, nor does my
coffee cup. Both sport a
coating of coffee “tar”
that helps to smooth out
a sometimes bitter taste
that can vary even in the
same brand.
I rinse both out with very
hot water before starting
the next pot.
