To be clear, from a purely filmmaking and artistic standpoint, I didn’t like the movie.
From a purely filmmaking and artistic standpoint, I loved the movie. It exceeded my expectations.

I felt treated like a sheep who is unable to handle the thought of their shepherd being anything less than Christlike.
It is a propaganda film. So what? Some of the greatest films ever made were propaganda films. Enjoy it for what it is. There have been plenty of hit jobs done on Reagan. It's about time someone held him up as a great man.

It was like an old fashion Hollywood movie from the 1940’s. America was better then and so were the movies. The style of the movie is perfect for a 1940’s movie star.
That is a very keen observation. It was an old fashioned style film, and that certainly added to its appeal.

Reagan was great. I am sick of how much Republicans today hate him.

Also could not stand the makeup (reminded me of Harvey Dent from Dark Knight!) and found Quaid’s acting cringe, almost parody-like at times. Like he was being dumbed down? And the female roles were even worse.
But clearly it resonated with people because I could hear sniffles among the audience at the end.

We could not see this movie more differently.

I absolutely LOVE your homepage! :-) Especially the Philippians 3 ending.
And I very much appreciate your thoughtful reply to my somewhat provocative reply to your original critique of the movie. Your effort deserves a similarly thoughtful reply, which unfortunately I’m not up to making tonight. I’ll try tomorrow.
FRegards, and Blessings!

I learned the truth about the media during the Reagan years. I watched the Iran/Contra hearings and saw Oliver North testify. I though, wow, this guys okay. Seems honest and has the right motivations.
Then i watched the "news" reports about it. He was a liar, evavsive and practically a criminal.
A light bulb came on and I started seeing the reality of the media.

Yes I know we insult them in tandem.
I am not among those hating on these men (or Sarah.) They aren’t all my cup of tea but the rhetoric gets pretty insane.

Being roughly the same age as the reviewer here....I remember the Cold War. I remember how soft and weak the left was toward the Commies. They are a million times more hostile, more bellicose and warlike against Russia today.....which is not an empire seeking global hegemony than they were against the Communists who did have a massive empire and an ideology they were seeking to spread all over the world. That puts the lie to the myth that our own leftists were ever peaceful, were ever really concerned about nuclear war, were ever really suspicious of the military industrial complex or the intel agencies.
It was always all about their power and their ideology with them. Nothing more. They have no principle other than power.

The Left (both Dems and Pubbies) hated Goldwater and Reagan. They both hate Trump, too.

Yup - teared up a few times, too.
He was a great man and I miss him so. Margret Thatcher, too - those two saved the world together.

Agreed. Iran/Contra was a revelation. It was at that time that I realized the national media hated Republicans generally, but it was still a while before it became clear that there was a strategy and an evil ideology behind what they were doing.

Power and ideology. That's correct. And the ideology is an evil one.

LOL I was born in 1959, so I’m a Ike Baby. I only remember JFK’s death, not really his life. LBJ was the first one I REALLY remember. Reagan was clearly the best of my lifetime. There is still a prayer, in my mind, that Trump could elevate his standing in a second term. Please, Lord!
I went to see the Reagan movie today. I LOVED it. So much, I refused to go pee when I desperately needed to. I didn’t want to miss a second of it They captured the essence of Reagan, what made him so great: His decency, and strength of conviction.
yes, they skipped some things. It’s important to stay close to 2 hours. Wouldn’t it be great if someone like Netflix would produce a mini-series like “The Crown”, that could go into more detail. But, we all know that ain’t happening.
I thought the makeup job on Quaid was not great. At times, he just looked weird. But, it got better toward the end.
There was not a dry eye in the theater I was end when the film finished. There was a LOT of applause. It was good to be around people who share my values.

Finally got to it!
Just saw this movie tonight. I can critique some aspects of it, but a pleasant movie to see.
I was about to cry outright afterwards just at the thought of how far we have gone down, and he was right - tyranny is only a generation away.
I seriously about broke down thinking I haven’t even had anything close to this man to vote for ever, and what my son is in for. And yes, I mean that.

Yup, certain segments are very jealous of Reagan because they are anxious to have a new god, so much so they start eviscerating the old one. But I’m not counting on another Reagan, not anytime soon.
