James Gandolfini gave ‘Sopranos’ cast $30K each — but not TV wife Edie Falco

Bada bing.

A new documentary about the making of HBO’s mafia hit, “The Sopranos,” covers how the late star James Gandolfini gave money to his fellow cast members – except one.

Now airing on HBO and Max, “Wise Guy: David Chase and The Sopranos” sees series creator David Chase say onscreen about Gandolfini, “He was great to that crew. He made them laugh, and he gave the other cast members $30,000.”

This information was also previously reported in the 2021 book, “Tinderbox: HBO’s Ruthless Pursuit of New Frontiers.”

According to the book, Gandolfini signed a contract that would pay him $5 million per season. HBO doubled his salary after the third season aired in 2001.

“The Sopranos” aired for six seasons, from 1999 to 2007. Gandolfini died from a heart attack at age 51 in 2013.

TV wives ... AmIrightguys?

If Brian Cranston were passing out money Anna Gunn wouldn’t get any.

Desi, Ralph and Ozzie would also let Lucy, Alice, and Harriet go away empty handed.

One of my favorite pals produced I think his last movie in Nola (it failed sadly )

He says no kinder actor existed

He always said he hated pretending to beat the snot out of Rosanna Arquette in True Romance

So he and Edie weren't friends. Oh well.

She's a left wing whacko.

Total PETA nut.

I remember now. At some awards show Galdofini, sitting in his seat, leans up to Glen Beck, sitting in his seat, and calls him a nasty name and that he should drop dead or some such, during the show. I think he really thought he was an actual mob guy.

Edie Falco was Gandolfini’s co-star - I doubt she needed $30k.

Though it did provide one of the funniest lines in the show:

“Come on let’s take this in the back.”

“Yeah that’s what Vito did!”

“You can Go!”

I wonder how much pressure Chase got from HBO to add that storyline?

Oh I’m sure HBO had a lot to do with it.....I’m just glad it didn’t get much screen time until the series was winding down.

As far as funny lines, there were many....as well as funny situations.

The episode when the Assemblyman was dedicating “The Museum of Science and Trucking”

I almost fell off the couch in a fit of laughter. SMH

Loved that series.

Same here. But the movie was surprisingly awful. If you haven't seen it, don't bother.

They were actually very good friends.

Edie Falco was paid on the show as a main character. The rest of the cast were considered "supporting characters" and got paid considerably less per episode.

So Edie did not need the money.

Well, thank you for the clarification. The headline didn’t mention it and to be honest the article didn’t go into that either.

Sorry for inferring the wrong thing from it.

No further comment. :)

I coulda done without the Vito Spatafore homo angle that’s for sure.

One thing I like about that storyline is that events start happening quickly after that.
Phil won't allow Vito to live, and whacks him.
Fat Dom ends up getting taken out when he goes to Jersey and won't quit joking about it.
The war between Jersey and New York heats up, and then the show ends.
So when you rewatch the series (as I do) and get to the Vito storyline, you know events will start spiraling out of control quickly and build to the finale.

I get your point but they coulda probably used a dozen other story lines to trigger all thzt.

I suspect it was HBO purposefully inserting homosexuality into a show they knew a lot of heterosexual men watched.

The left rarely misses a chance to rub normal people’s noses in their perverted lifestyle.
